Red Raider Gridiron | Hunt Together
POST-PRACTICE NON-TRANSCRIPT | This is not a word-for-word transcript, but a hurried attempt to cobble together the general idea. The raw video is embedded below. Also, if you missed the reports from Saturday and Sunday, you've missed a lot. You're woefully behind. Just like Glasgow says, you can't show up every other day, you have to show up every day. "Every day, every play." Make it happen. Let's go.
Head Coach Tommy Tuberville | Practice #2 in the books. Trying to not make their head spin as much as possible. Will start going in the morning with pads and a walk-through tonight. Pushing through it. We look more athletic, a bit more speed, more athletic ability. Need to get the fundamentals down, will need to do that over the next couple of days. Don't know how much scrimmage time we'll have, more concerned that they know what to do. Good second day, WR Darrin Moore had a death in the family. (Talk a bit about Urell Johnson, Jared Flannel & Jarvis Phillips coming back from injury.) They hall had surgery, coming back, they add depth. Urell, we had to fix his shoulder and missed spring. Needs to get stronger, in very good shape. Just experience, he hasn't played much. (Talk about the leap from 1st year to 2nd in secondary.) We don't have a lot of depth, Derrick Mays coming back, we'll need it going into the fall, Jeremy Reynolds was out with headaches today. (Talk about fullback Omar Ontiveros.) He did a good job during the spring. We don't do a lot of two-backs, will use smaller backs, but not a big lead back. Depth will help tremendously, Ontiveros and Jace Amaro will help give different looks. (What about Sam Eguavoen?) He's a good basketball player. Just a good athlete, probably further ahead than other freshmen in terms of being an athlete. He may not know what to do, but he makes plays based on his athleticism. Hopefully Sam will pick it up and is athletic enough to make plays. (Jakeem Grant was in a blue jersey?) Just sprained wrist, we want him want 100% healthy for scrimmage. (Talk about Jacoby Franks being back out here.) He played fast today, Franks and Tramain Swindall should have good years, they know how to play, they know how to get it done and they've been in battle before.
Urell Johnson | (Getting back out there and getting healthy.) Been a long year, adapting to the system. Much faster in college, pretty confident in what he's doing now. (Talk about the importance of the cornerback position.) The cornerback has a big role because the safeties depend on the cornerback a lot and must be fast. (Talk about the team speed.) Very important, must have if want to be successful. (Talk about Glasgow.) He keeps us fired up, if you don't do what he says, he's all up in your face. He expects you to do things right away. He's a good coach.
Terrance Bullitt | (Talk about practice.) It's going good, everyone is picking up on their schemes, but still have some things to learn. (Is it difficult for first few days.) Need to get used to being back into the heat. (Talk about the intensity tomorrow during first practice with pads.) Asked coach if he could hit them in the mouth, he said save it for the scrimmage. (Talk about the team speed.) Much faster this year, a lot of credit goes to Coach Walker, very important to be fast in this conference. (Talk about Glasgow.) Every day, every play. No plays off, he doesn't show favortism. (Talk about the phrase, hunt together, kill together.) The "kill together" was added by the players. Just means 11 guys to the football, need to get all red and black jerseys to the football (Talk about when someone messes up.) Glasgow doesn't show favortism, we need that.
Jarvis Phillips | (Talk about being in the second year in new system.) Pretty anxious to get started, want to have a better year. (What are you doing different?) Working on footwork. (Talk about team speed.) We have secondary back and hope to be faster, will be good and excitiing (Talk about how important cornerback is.) Out on a corner, it's important. (Talk about hunt together.) It's 11 people together on each play.
So much more you won't believe it is all after the jump.
PRACTICE REPORTS | We've got a handful of reports from yesterday's practice: LAJ's Don Williams, RRS.com's Will McKay & Taylor Hair, RP.com's Joe Yeager, and RP.com's Travis Cram. If you watch the video, then you know where a lot of these guys get their notebook stuff, it's out there and it's in the non-transcript and it's Tuberville and the players they want to offer up after practice. I thought that Joe Yeager's report gave you the best idea of what was happening and some of the smaller details, which I really appreciate. Yeager mentioned that Daniel Cobb and Zach Winbush at strongside linebacker are both struggling thus far and Cobb is taking plays off and lack consistency. That's not good. I should also note that both Williams and Yeager agreed that WR Eric Ward had a really good day yesterday, as did WR Marcus Kennard. LAJ's Williams also has a feature story on secondary, which again, is mostly gathered from the post-practice presser.
OFFICIAL SITE STUFF | The official site has a short article on Glasgow and his intensity, while there's a Q&A with freshman RB Ronnie Daniels.
MEET THE TWO-DEEP | Terrance Bullit is all over this place today (also watch via YouTube). Say it with me, "Every day, every play."
VIDEO| KAMC with a bit on the team being bigger, faster, stronger . . .Fox 34 has video, but I couldn't find a link to a specific story with the video. Am I just missing it?

Overall good news about the team.
I am very concerned about LB play this year. If Mr. Cobb is not going to be an “every play, every day” type of guy, who could take his place? Now is the time to find out who really wants to play.
I am really excited about what Russian Coffee brings to this team;
It appears that Glasgow has more to work with this year in terms of dept and team speed, but I am really fired up about the defense this year. We really can’t be any worse than last year. Russian Coffee brings a new attitude, and I personally like the new scheme.
Neal Brown said that LB was going to be a problem for us. I would guess that it is only natural to hear more about the LB’s since this is our weak link this year. I hope Russian Coffee can disguise and hide our weakness until the 2012 recruits hit the field.
Really excited about this defense. Also looks like Tubby is focusing a lot of media attention on the defense. Me’s a thinking that he must have a good feeling about the defense.
"I feel sorry for the guys," Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville said. "They fought hard tonight. We didn't look good on offense or defense at times, and at times we looked pretty good. It's just, I don't know. Weird game.
Speed at LB...
Would it be such a shocker to have 2 from Hubert, Fehoko and Dees playing, or are they too slow?? I can see Branden Jackson worming his way into the lineup (despite his vomming issues) if Cobb and Winbush can’t get it done….
Eguavoen and Justin Cooper are getting some positive mentions to my surprise, I wonder if they can contribute early, due to their athleticism…?
Not overly concerned, somebody will step up…
Wide Open
The players have to feel great about their chances because lots of people will be getting a shot this year. Not to mention the guys saying that Glasgow doesn’t play favorites. Nothing is set in stone, so you’d think a guy like Dees (or Cooper, or even Eguavoen) would feel great about knowing they legitimately have a shot at solid playing time.
Also, it’s awesome that the players added “kill together” to “hunt together”. Coaches have to love these guys buying in to the philosiphy like a BOSS.

I love it.
“Just like Glasgow says, you can’t show up every other day, you have to show up every day. “Every day, every play.” Make it happen. Let’s go." So let’s follow Seth’s lead, can’t miss a day of DTN. I am so ready for some Red Raider Football.
PS. I thought I missed Nancy James name on the roster and there she is dropping passes. Get her off the field, too small and s-l-o-w.

Must have been a type-o
Among the best hands on the team young Nance, according to that trusted source ESPN…
Bothers me not that she is dropping passes, it does however bother me that she is on the team. Causes me to question the judgement of Tuberville.

Every day that Nancy remains on this team is another poke in the eye with a pointy stick to a significant number of Tech fans.

She does not see the field this year anyway;
She will be standing on the sidelines behind 102 other Red Raiders.

103 if Harrison Jeffers' 'back' gets out of tubbies doghouse...
Still would prefer the malingering little git to disappear off the roster.
It is still a roster spot that should be occupied by a player and it is offensive to many that she is allowed to fowl the air at Tech.

I'd rather him be on the team
and simply not play whatsoever. Maybe it’ll help him realize that being a douche keeps you on the sideline. Kicking him off the team altogether would never fly with the admin, anyway.

Not sure why it would be an issue with the admin, he couldn’t sue because of immunity. Maybe there is some rational explaination of why the admin wouldn’t allow him to be cut, but it really doesn’t matter. Either Tuberville isn’t in charge of his program or he just has really bad judgement.

who would have thought....
that we would be talking about Defense and not our Offense during fall camp…..HTKT!

Offense
That bothers me. It also bothers me that the 1st statement in Yeagers article is of the “Crisco Kids” and how our recievers are dropping balls. Unless that changes, I think that reinforces Tub’s desire to “run first” and traditionalize our offense. We need to hang 70+ on at least 1 of the pre-confrence JV teams, just to remind everyone (players included) that we can. Without solid recieving corps it make that 70+ challenging.
From what I read
sounds like the vets where not doing as well as the frosh. maybe another reason we see young guys like Marquez. Per Level on tweeter said he looks like a natural WR.

Worry ye not birddog
Its disappointing to hear Corker and Kennard having drops, and Swindall really shouldn’t be having been around so long. Kenny Williams is gonna be a bowling ball, so I guess he won’t be required to catch too many so no biggy there. Adam James putting them down just shows the guy can’t run, can’t block and sure as hell can’t catch – scholarship waster…
Eric Ward is stepping up, and Derek Edwards is improving. Reading between the lines, and as it wasn’t reported, Darrin Moore, Jacoby Franks, Alex ‘talkalot’ Torres, Zouz, CornDog, Bradley Marquez et al all showed safe hands, so no worries here…
I think Air Raid will be okay;
Hard not to focus on defense after that showing in 2010.
"I feel sorry for the guys," Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville said. "They fought hard tonight. We didn't look good on offense or defense at times, and at times we looked pretty good. It's just, I don't know. Weird game.
The 2011 & 2012 WR recruits...
also lend the hint that the air attack will stay for a good few more years yet…Reginald Davis, Dominique Wheeler and Marcus Johnson aint here to be downfield blockers, I hope…
It's the work of the devil that I've seen this picture twice today.

Black hat?
I was stunned to see Tuberville wearing that goofy black hat considering how much cooler white is in this Texas heat. He must have been 10 degrees hotter in the black.

Players are practicing in white hats

Injury to Grant is worrysome
This is the kid that needed most practice learning the offense and in catching passes. This injury will keep him out during a crucial phase of practice. Hope he recovers soon enough to catch up on some much needed practice before the season starts.
Jarvis Phillips !!
Glasgow caught his players’ attention and the attention of reporters on Sunday when he took off running at several players for making a mistake during their drills. "I am surprised," Phillips said. "I really didn’t think he was that fast but sometimes he exceeds my expectations."
Thank you for my laugh of the day !
Yeager mentioned that Daniel Cobb and Zach Winbush at strongside linebacker are both struggling thus far and Cobb is taking plays off and lack consistency. That’s not good.
I wonder if they are messing that much, that badly, or if they show a lot of potential and he is trying to get them there faster. It sounds mental from what little I have read, good thing is they are still in there and coach is still pushing them.
Here is another that I like:
“He wants what he demands,” freshman cornerback Urell Johnson said. “Everything he asks for he expects you to do it right away. He’s a good coach.”
That one speaks well of both the coach and Johnson !
Here you go, LOL:
Sunday afternoon during the Red Raiders’ second training camp practice, Glasgow could be seen sprinting alongside players, both yelling at, and also praising them with exuberant high-fives.
That boy has to be having fun !
I have always had high hopes for Jacoby Franks, I saw him as a very good hs football player at West Orange Stark. I did drop expectations as he seemed to struggle to get on the field. Then he started last season with a lift in his game and was making plays and boom broke his foot in the Colorado game. I think it would be great if he came into his own this season and left a nice legacy with the Raider Nation.

No mystery that we are see problems in that area – LB’s. I’m surprised the receivers are dropping balls. Seems like Corker better make his presence known or plan on making a carreer as scout team.
Glasgow is just what this defense needed and my guess is that it will pay off.

Good observation on Corker....
…although the sketchiness of the mcRabbit filming, we should have had our reservations from the outset… Was expecting good things from him this year though…
