The exit penalty stuff is interesting, but it does leave an out in 6 years when giving up 1st and 2ndtier rights may noy be a big deal to a school with a lot of money. Wonder who that could be?
Go Raiders . . .
Double-T Nation
I guess 6 years is a long time given the current activity with realignmenting !
Living large in Texas...Texas forever.
This deal is only good for UT and OU.
This deal locks Tier 1 and Tier 2 media rights for 6 years.
This deal allows UT to keep its LHN along with all its obvious advantages. Nothing is said about restricting high school games. Nothing is said about developing a conference wide Tier 3 media program.
They get rid of Beebe and place another “puppet” (Chuck Neinas) in his position.
The remaining schools still have no vote or say in how the conference is run or who is invited into the conference..
With this deal UT and OU simply lock in their power over everybody else for 6 years.
Only those who are willing to play UT’s and OU’s game can come into the conference.
Does this really sound like a good deal for anyone other than UT and OU?
Around here football is bigger than the state of Texas!
f*ck OU. f*ck Texas. f*ck us for continuing to be a lap dog
"You start by rolling the fuck outta somebody" - @Coach_Leach
What exactly is your alternative??
I’d be interested in hearing a suggestion on what Tech could/should do. And be realistic.
Obviously....
We should immediately leave the big twelve and head to the Lone Star Conference. It would be awesome.
Guns Up!
The
point is there is no alternative. We bend over and take it. I would at least like to hear some kind of competent statement from our braintrust aknowledging TECH and the other schools are getting screwed over again. Would also like to have seen a forward thinking commish come on board instead of another DeLoss f*ck buddy 2.0. F*ck OU and F*ck Texas because they can do everything they’ve done to this point without repercussions.
"You start by rolling the fuck outta somebody" - @Coach_Leach
Well, there is quite a difference between a high priced call girl..
… and your average street corner prostitute. Really, it’s worlds apart.
I mean, if you’re gonna bend over….. let’s have a little pride!
Listen, I’m with you, in a in the moment kind of way – this sucks – but, in the same vein as how it has always been for Tech n the big picture….. it could be worse.
Let’s get about the business of making lemonade shall we?

Is SEC with TAMU an Option?
I haven’t seen anywhere that it would be an option, but I would prefer to be tied with TAMU in the SEC than deal with this horrible deal.

Other than the LHN...
What is bad about what is going on? They WILL NOT have anything related to high school on the network. Also, if Tech wants it, they are more than welcome to start their own network. OU is going to start one in the next year or two. This is going to be as equal as it is going to get. If Tier 1 and Tier 2 are equally split and their are other consequences for leaving the league.. that is really on par with other conferences. Texas and OU will always have advantages. LSU and Georgia will always have advantages over Vanderbilt.
Guns Up!
Brad
are u serious? There are 2 schools RUNNING this conference. There is NO accountability whatsoever. They just brought on another dumb f*ck Beebe clone to administer their wishes. Texas and OU will choose who gets brought into the conference with further expansion. They wont expand to 12-14 teams to stregthen the conference because they are not concerned with future stability for this conference. Theyve found a perfect system for them. A ten team conference with 2 power brokers and 8 underlings that is juuuuuuust credible enough to keep AQ status, and they also get their own networks b/c no other conference would and hasnt allowed this kind of bullshit….just wait till they start forcing Tech games onto their network. Its already happened in BBall and we still have 6 more years to go. There is nothing about this that is on par with other conferences
"You start by rolling the fuck outta somebody" - @Coach_Leach
this
is why I was perplexed during the entire “we’re looking to the West” speech from OU. They have everything they want here. Lots f money, plenty of pwer, now an even easier road to the BCS/NC. Throw a little bit of a temper-tantrum and they’ll get a decent backer for their network. Only thing that will change the game is if it gets sooo watered down that one of them gets left out of the NC game one year. They’ve got it made. and there’s enough “smaller” schools that are scared enough, to let it happen
I think the Big 12...
will get back to a 12 team league in at least 2-3 years. It might even be sooner than that. Also, each team only has one vote on matters; so I really don’t think they are running the conference anymore than the top 2-3 teams in the SEC or PAC. Schools that have consistent winning years and tradition are probably there for a reason and probably have a little more influence. That’s life. Chuck Neinas will not be a Beebe clone. This league is not perfect; but I think all will work together to make it work for all.
Guns Up!
DeLoss Dodds
has already said a 10 team league is “perfect”. What DeLoss wants, DeLoss gets in this clusterf*ck
"You start by rolling the fuck outta somebody" - @Coach_Leach
Sounds OK to me...
I am just happy things are stabilized. Add at least 1 more team, preferably 3 and we should be good to go. Also, this buys Tech 6 years to bolster their entire athletic program -and more importantly, improve academically. Let’s keep moving towards Tier 1 and we should have no problem finding a good conference home in 2017.
You're assuming that there will be a place to land in 2017
You know what they say about assuming….

Sounds very user friendly for a certain 2 schools, so just lay back and enjoy it folks because it’s not changing anytime soon. Just be glad we’re AQ if that helps.
Tech just needs to kick some serious ass on the Football field!!!

Somebody needs to tell Boren to sit down and shut up the way Larry Scott told him. I think it’s best OU realizes they are UT’s cuddle partner and not equal. Seriously, Boren you should have bag over your head all day after that public slam by the PAC.

Meanwhile, on ESPN, James and Palmer were just talking about Doege's 40-44 performance and how Doege it was.
Then suddenly, a grizzly bear wearing a wolf T-shirt riding on the back of a Great White shark smashed into the press box and sliced both of those bitches up with his diamond plated claws.
It was so awesome.

Listen. After all of my bitching and moaning.....
I can live with the outcome. We are in an AQ conference for the next 5-6 years. Things could have been a whole lot worse.
Now, can Tech significantly raise it’s profile over that period? Because change is constant, right? So, the only thing we need to worry about going forward, collectively, is what the hell are we going to do to make it better?
Easier said than done? Well, yeah. But still, only one thing will matter next time around – what did we do in the meantime about our situation? Because, I don’t know about you guys, but I got the message loud and clear – nobody thinks a hell of a lot about TTU outside of Tech fans. We may, but they don’t.
That is the bottom line.

But, coaches are about the most temporary part of the equation any way. You work with what you got. We need to make the infrastructure irresistible if we want coaches to want to stay. My personal belief is that the Big 12 serves Tech well in this regard. But, we do need to raise the profile of the University if we truly want to be solid.

Cincy and NC State
I started watching the game late in the 3rd quarter. My first impression was that it looked like Leach’s Texas Tech playing…..Tuby’s Texas Tech. Eeerie. My next impression was hearing a really disturbing voice during the game. My next impression was some smirky looking dumb butt named Craig spouting off something about the Big 12 using that disturbing voice. Then I realized who that fool was. My final impression was a blank screen….as I turned that dang loony face off. I can’t stand to hear or see him, even if the game on the field is a good one.
I am OK with the Big 12 remaining intact, less the Aggies. No matter what deal was struck, there is no way UT and OU would not be in the lead. But, like Dunka said
We are in an AQ conference for the next 5-6 years. Things could have been a whole lot worse.
And like bflood36 said:
….this buys Tech 6 years to bolster their entire athletic program -and more importantly, improve academically. Let’s keep moving towards Tier 1 and we should have no problem finding a good conference home in 2017.
So, hang on. If Tech attends to business on the field, Tech will do well in the future if this all turns sour again.

Oklahoma is such a hypocrite
Remember when Boren said that he wants to be among equals, where the monies are shared equally? Today he said he is still for that, but it should happen over time. If Tech and all others will hold firm on not signing away tier 1 and tier 2 rights for the next 6 years until, starting next year, all those monies from tier 1 and tier 2 are shared equally, and all teams agree to not show high school – both games and highlights – on their 3rd tier networks, then I think it is a deal worth signing . Let schools keep the 3rd tier rights and money. I don’t think many cable systems/customer will pony up anyway. Look at how the LHN has done so far for proof. If they can make money off of that, good for them – but the LHN, money-wise, will already be a failure for ESPn if what I propose above happens.
I would rather not stay with this sinking ship...
The Big 12 is about 9 kinds of f***ed and everybody knows it.
I’d settle for the MAC or Conference USA if they became AQ.

OU and UT
Main leverage in the conference is predicated on the threat of leaving the conference. Whatever makes that harder weakens them in addition to increasing conference stability.
Add in a better revenue sharing plan and keeping a one vote each format will strengthens everyone else.
Yes the LHN still need to be brought to heel.

I still don’t understand why OU would want their own network? If UT cant get theirs rolling what makes OU think it will work for them? Sure they are gonna get paid but for how long? Im just waiting for ESPN to pull the plug on the LHN and take their losses.
I still don't understand why the Slave Eight don't start a Big 12 Network for Tier 3 programming?
Are they that afraid of competing with UT? The every school for itself approach is dumb. Internet streaming is all anybody will ever get up and running & there’s no money there.
2011 Season - No excuses. Just win!
To both your points....
.. I think for the 1st time since the inception of the Big 12 there is a legitimate chance that it can happen. If it did nothing else, the LHN has proven something important. If you happen to be at the level of UT, a single school network is probably a bad bet. If you are even slightly less affluent and popular – you don’t have a chance in hell to make it worth your while.
On the other hand, League networks are garnering huge contracts. OU has got to be slowly coming around to this. Yeah, their pride just got smacked across the face for the whole world to see, and they probably don’t feel like conceding anything else right away, but I have to believe they will. Remember, it would be all of the conference 3rd Tier rights, which by default includes half of UT’s conference and all of their post season games. And nothing would slip through the cracks to the LHN because all of that program will be needed by the Big 12 Network in order to meet it’s quota.
I think it’s just a matter of time. (and hopefully within a year – not after 6 years)

Harvey "Big Daddy" Pollitt: "What's that smell in this room? Didn't you notice it, Brick? Didn't you notice a powerful and obnoxious odor of mendacity in this room?"
There is some talk over at Crimson & Cream that OU may be partnering with OSU & OKC Thunder to build a regional network for distribution.
