TEXAS TECH FOOTBALL
Week 4 Football Press Conference Quotes and Video - Texas Tech Red Raiders Official Athletic Site
I don't have time to go over all of the quotes, but it's worth your time to read what Tuberville thinks about the offense and defense.  Tuberville does this each and every week and it's usually a pretty honest assessment of the team.  I enjoy it, as does RdrPwr, so you should too.

Offensive A History Lesson - YouTube
Really enjoyed this short portion of RaiderPower and I think you'll appreciate it too as OC Neal Brown embraces and teaches the offensive history of Texas Tech.

Glasgow: Red Raiders need to do better job of tackling | Red Raiders
No doubt that DC Chad Glasgow wants the defense to get up to speed quicker:

"We missed 18 tackles that accounted for 234 yards of offense, which is way, way, way too many," Glasgow said Monday.  We’ve got to find a way to get the guy down somehow, some way, and we’ve got to continue to fix the little things.  We’ve got to play with better leverage. If the football starts inside of me, I have to keep it inside of me. If it starts outside of me, I’ve got to keep it outside of me."

And Glasgow talks about not having guys like CB Tre' Porter and WS Cody Davis, but honey-badger doesn't make excuses:

"Players make a huge difference," Glasgow said, "but nobody cares who walks out there on that field. They care about how you play. We’re not going to make excuses for guys we don’t have."

Red Raiders football notebook: Competition on corner | Red Raiders | Texas Tech notes: Daniels' suspension indefinite | Red Raiders
Lots to get to in the notebook, but a summary:  CB Derrick Mays may lose his starting job as CB Jarvis Phillips played better; DE Leon Mackey should be back this week; RB Ronnie Daniels' suspension is indefinite; and WR Darrin Moore will be back soon, but not this week.  There are more things there, so go check it out.  Also, I always like reading who Tuberville named the players of the week:

Offense POTW:  RB Eric Stephens
Defense POTW:  DT Kerry Hyder
Special Teams POTW:  RB Ben McRoy
Scout Offense POTW:  WR Tyson Williams
Scout Defense POTW: LB Justin Cooper

Ward's game-winning touchdown was product of improvisation | Red Raiders
I very much enjoyed hearing WR Eric Ward talk about that last play:

"It was originally a post, but then Doege checked me something else," Ward said. "Obviously that play didn’t work out. I knew we had to go back to what we practice on, and that’s scramble rules, so when he started scrambling I knew I had to get open. I did the best job I could to get open, and it worked out."

I thought that it was a fade route with WR Jacoby Franks on the right side, but the cornerback bumped to the line of scrimmage and Nevada brought over help and was double-covered.  Ward on the other side of the field followed the play and made a nifty move to juke the Nevada cornerback to find the corner endzone.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL
9 things and 1 crazy prediction for this week
AAS's Kirk Bohls has this tidbit on the Longhorn Network:

After getting clearance from the NCAA in August, the Longhorn Network is pushing forward with its desire to show highlights, scores or statistics from high school football games. Last Thursday it showed a YouTube clip of a New Jersey game, for its first foray into that controversial field. The LHN has yet to show scores or stats.

Dave Brown, LHN vice president for programming and acquisitions, has made a pitch to four Texas television affiliates in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Houston, offering to trade two-minute, LHN-produced clips in exchange for the station's high school football game highlights. LHN sent out a clip of Longhorns quarterback Garrett Gilbert as a leader, after he was benched. ESPN said Houston station KTRK agreed, but San Antonio's KSAT turned down the LHN offer.

"We were really insulted that (the Longhorn Network might think) we'd just roll over for them," a producer at KSAT told me Sunday, adding that his station usually shoots footage of 17 to 21 high school games on Friday nights. "Now if it had been ‘Hard Knocks' material, that'd have been different. Once we looked at it, we said thanks, but no thanks."

Am I just remembering wrong?

Didn’t the NCAA say no to highschool games and coverages on conference networks and LHN? How is a youtube clip not the same?

They

Said no to games only…I think

What is the difference between putting games and highlights on? Still creates an advantage.

Dont

get me in a position to spin for Lucifer here….but I’m sure they would say live coverage versus highlights is a huge difference and apparently wasn’t banned.

I think I’m even coming around to believe that also. He’s much improved from last year from what I’ve seen so far.

A spread offense lives & dies based on the QB running it

We have a very good spread QB in Doege this year. I’ve liked almost everything on offense & special teams so far this year.

Brown impresses me in the video

He seems to be a good teacher. Did you hear the one clip where he singled out Jacob Karam as “having the highest GPA in the whole room”? Must be a smart kid. In watching Brown in the interviews he sort of reminds me of a young Mike Gundy .I really do hope he sticks around—a very good hire in my opinion.

I am starting to wonder how much better he would be if he had more authority???

Call me crazy

But I think that if NB was left to call the offensive shots he would be chunking that rock all over the place…just my theory

Way to go Lady Red Raiders!!

I hope the VB team can keep up the good work and keep the W’s coming.

We need to win strong in Lawrence, KS.

I wonder if the Houston station that accepted the LHN offer is run by an ut alum and the station in San Antonio is run by someone that does not like ut. I hope more stations show the LHN the door like KSAT did.

Basketball 5

1. Out with the old, in with the new, Pat Knight is out and Billy Gillispie is in. Thoughts?
Apparently the writer of this question did not hear the huge sigh of relief when the Raider Nation learned we are getting a new basketball coach.

2. Texas Tech lost their top four scorers off last year’s team. Considering they went 5-11 in conference, is that such a bad thing?
Another unheard sigh of relief when those particular players graduated.

3. Robert Lewandowski is Tech’s leading returning scorer (8.5 ppg last season) and rebounder (4.8). Without any Rivals Top-150 recruits coming in, convince me that Tech will win some conference games.
I will not make any predictions based on Lewandowski’s past. I think he has game, I also think he needs a team to be a part of in order to be effective.

4. Tech hasn’t been known to have a lot of interior presence. This season, though, Lewandowski is one of three big men listed at 6-10. Will they be able to pound the ball inside and score over some teams?

There are a lot of new faces, a whole new team, the challenge is not a Lewandowski per se, it is getting a new group of players working together under a new coach and making a new team that can make basket ball game.

5. Is it possible for the Red Raiders to sign big time recruits, considering their in-state competition in Texas, Texas A&M and recently Baylor?

A wearysome, tiresome wornout question that does not rate an answer….dumb.
