Harrell cut by Packers

I'm a little surprised by this move, but Graham Harrell was released by Green Bay today. Thought he showed something in pre-season.

I think they have to make him available to other teams before putting him on the practice squad

He will still be their 3rd QB if no other team snatches him up.

Agreed.

Mike McCarthy is giving him his respect and dangling him out for a team so he gets a shot. If not, he will get picked up for the GB Practice Squad and be the back there next year when Matt Flynn gets traded or picked up in the off season Free Agency.

Oh well

At least he was given a shot. What is his degree? He may want to think about pursuing it, as I just think GB and all the rest are just screwing him over. I have zip respect for the NFL about now.

Just a strategic move here….GB hopes to pick up again and put him on practice squad.

by WreckerRaider on Sep 4, 2011 12:43 AM CDT reply actions

Hope he gets a shot

But I’ve seen how stupid NFL teams can be after living in DFW for 25 years. It’s surprising how stupid general mangers and coaches can often be. Hope Graham makes it onto the practice squad at least.

I hope so

I would love to see him reunited with Crabtree, and put with another great QB coach in Harbaugh. The Niners did cut the backup QB they brought in late (McCown), so it is possible that Harbaugh might be willing to bring in another QB to help shield his QB of the future (Colin Kaepernick).

Cowboys cut Brandon Williams.

NFL rules....

State before you can place a player on the PS they have to be cleared across waivers and offered to all 32 NFL teams….. I know that’s what the Packers are doing with Harrell, I hope that’s what the Cowboys are doing with Brandon.

Btw, if a team “claims” a player off the waiver wire at the final cut, he has to be on your active roster for the entire year….so could be a win win for Harrell.

i could have sworn

that i read an article not 2 weeks ago that he had locked up the 3rd spot. of course if they are doing it as a strategic move, thats fine, and if he gets picked up by someone else to be #2, even better.

Harrell cleared the waiver wire....

and was resigned by the Packers…..He will be the 3rd string QB…..on the PS.

Yippeeeeee

I stand corrected. Maybe GB really does care.

Flynn's contract is up after the season

at which point he becomes serious trade-bait, assuming he builds on the success he had coming in as relief in 2010. Harrell’s going to be fine.

he would certainly care about winning

Whew…rough week for Red Raiders, wasn’t it. I didn’t see if Brandon Williams landed on a practice squad, but I was very surprised he was odd man out in Dallas. Leong was not a surprise at all. He had no chance with Dallas.

Also a little surprised Graham cleared waivers.

by Tech92 on Sep 5, 2011 1:06 PM CDT reply actions

That was disappointing;

but maybe agent had something to do with it. I don’t think it hurst GH to stay in GB system for another year. He has really improved under McCarthy.

Agree

I’m sure it hurts financially for the time being, but I think it pays big dividends in the long term.

$5,700/week minimum on PS

and "There is no limit to how much a team can pay a practice squad player. Several teams have enticed players with offers of increased pay, usually a few thousand dollars extra, to join or remain on their practice squad."
