Craig James was interviewed and was asked and subsequently acknowledged that he received some payments from boosters while at SMU. While he was vague and downplayed the amounts - this is probably the first salvo in his introduction to politics. I am certain that it won't stop at this. No word on the 5 hookers.

He's said this before

He said this in his 2010 deposition in the Leach case (which you can find in “Swing your Sword”). Still, doesn’t reflect well on his honesty—and doesn’t look good when you’re running for office. Remember, “if you can’t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen!”

Oh, the debate was tonight, wasn't it?

I meant to watch it and forgot, dang it!! I was sure it would be entertaining. Did anyone watch? Was he prepared? Could he speak somewhat intelligently on the topics?

Thanks for the link

two thoughts immediately come to mind re: the shotgun & pistol:

1. wouldn’t that make the mattress lumpy?
2. If I messed with people’s lives the way he does I would sleep with guns under my mattress too. And I’m afraid of guns.

What would you have that would be checked for lumps? Come on.... Think extra hard.

As for the glove, its to break it in. Put a ball or two in the pocket, tie the glove tight around the ball(s), cover in cooking oil, bake in oven at 350 for 20 minutes or so, then put it under your mattress to sleep on for a few nights.

So, we have a guy, that says FLAT OUT that “back in the day” when he was in the MIDDLE of a (proven to be) corrupt culture, he AT BEST knew nothing about it or more likely knew at least some of it and was complicit with bits that by HIS standards were “not so bad”.

Now, he wants us to send him to what is likely THE MOST corrupt and shady culture in the country and expect him to trust him to “kick the skunks out of the bushes”. James has PROVEN that either he’s a flat-out idiot that won’t be able to recognize the skunks if they spray him in the face OR that he’s totally fine cuddling up to them if it serves his ends. So is this thread the exception to talking about politics?

I saw CJ’s interview on Fox News a while back, and he said that the situation in Lubbock with his son was “not how you treat human beings.” His son was in a DIVISION 1 FOOTBALL PROGRAM. I only made it to the high school level, but I was treated in some pretty inhumane ways during practice and in the off-season. Apparently his son, according to Bennie Wylie, Lincoln Riley and others didn’t like to participate in those “difficult” drills or to admit that he had ever done anything wrong. I guess how you treat human beings is to cuss them out, break down their door, and create factions amongst team-members because this kind of behavior was awarded with NJ getting nominated captain this year.

I was initially thinking that too

And also that griping about him is cathartic. But I realized, it’s more like ripping off the scab right after it forms. It just keeps the wound fresh and doesn’t let it go away. I say this even tho I’m as guilty as the next because I realized that this is what REALLY bothered me about all the AJames press of this past season. Instead of helping it (IMO) MADE THINGS WORSE. And that’s the main reason that if they EVER bring up (without being asked, if asked all you can do is answer) any member of the James clan from now forward for at LEAST the next 5 years, they are ABSOLUTE MORONS.

That said, I think there’s things to discuss, I’m just saying discussing them probably just re-stokes the angry fires.

This is a statement that would be worthy to discuss on a political blog. I don’t like this on DTN (sorry HeeroTX!). I realize that James will always be connected to Leach, and I can accept that, but I also know that sometimes people can’t help themselves and James’ political leanings will be discussed and I would prefer not to have that discussion here. I don’t think he’ll just be a political person, but at some point that’s going to be what he discusses at some political rally, and I really don’t want to read about it here on DTN. James got way too much time on DTN 2 years ago, I really don’t want to have to keep reliving that.

The mere thought of CJ leaves a bad taste in my mouth and it wouldn’t bother me if I never heard his name again.

At the same time it is worth noting: The difference between today and 2 years ago is that 2 years ago he was untouchable. No need to rehash what he did, but what made it so sickening is that there was no comeuppance. The difference today is that it is all about comeuppance. 2 years ago I purchased a ticket to today’s show via the emotions I spent watching him tear apart my program. It costs a lot more than I expected, and I’m invested now, so I really want to sit back and enjoy the second act.

Good question

"I’ve established a reputation for integrity. I have maintained those high standards" - Craig James

by TechFirst on Jan 14, 2012 3:11 AM CST up reply actions

Here’s my stance.

1. I’ve always had a no politics rule. The article posted is from the DMN sports page, but the author is from the Austin bureau of the DMN. The article is about James announcing his senate bid. I also have a no name-calling and no racists or homophobic comments on DTN. James blurs the rule a bit because he’s also a sports figure and associated with TTU. I get that. I’m not going to ever ask that you not mention his name at all, but linking to an article about James’ start to his political career is political.

2. I only have so much time. If I do allow it then I have to spend my time reading comments and making decisions about whether or not something is political or not and I would rather spend my time writing. Call me selfish, but I would rather spend my time writing and not moderating.

3. I’m really the only one left that moderates. Tech92 occasionally does (thanks!), but almost all of the other contributing authors don’t moderate at all, and that’s fine. They may not feel comfortable doing so, but moderating requires quite a bit of my time. Again, I’d rather spend my time writing.

4. I don’t read any political blogs, but I do subscribe to the RSS feed of Dallas Magazine’s Frontburner blog. This is just one example about a place where you could discuss James and make comments if that’s what you want to do: http://frontburner.dmagazine.com/2012/01/12/craig-james-confesses/ I am sure there are places to comment or post if that’s what you want to do, but I don’t want to do it here.

5. If there is something about James and Texas Tech, sure, whatever, I don’t care. If you want to comment about the internet meme, fine, whatever. I just don’t want FanShots or FanPosts related to his political career.
