They need to upgrade the production facilities to HD first

That should have gone in with the replacement widescreen installation they did in Tuberville’s 1st year. But it’s great to hear that the next big screen TV will go in the North End Zone and the DoubleT scoreboard will stay. Tearing the DoubleT scoreboard would be like removing the Eiffel Tower from Paris. It’s the 1st thing you think of when you think of Jones Stadium.

Whenever Tech adds the video board, it needs to convert its production control room to high definition. That’s another major undertaking. "Right now, everything we produce — any shows we produce or game telecasts — are standard definition," Hocutt said. "Converting that to high definition quality is another expense and timing challenge that we’ll face as well. We’re going to take a look at it all. Cost will be the driver in our decision." In the fall of 2009, then-Tech athletic director Gerald Myers said the stadium master plan called for a video board being added on the south end. That would necessitate moving the double-T scoreboard. Hocutt said he wants the scoreboard to stay where it is; hence, his desire to put the video board on the north end.

If the new 80×40 foot screen goes in the north end zone, that means the other big screen installed in the current north end zone can be moved elsewhere. Put it over the coaches offices in the south end zone just to the left or right of the Double T structure.
