Off-Topic: 2 Texas Tech Alum to be the Morning Crew for the Austin, TX KVET Radio Station (98.1 Country)
(Clarification NOTE: Chris Mosser is actually a Texas State Bobcat Alum but ties himself to the Texas Tech Nation because he was raised in Lubbock and his Mom worked for the History Dept at Tech. He does stop by and checks out DTN from time to time. )
I find it quite amusing that there will be 2 Red Raiders hosting the anchor spot for the station known as the Longhorn station.
Congratulations to Chris Mosser and Anne Hudson.
I know that Mosser is an alum but I don’t know what years he attended Tech. His family lives in the area and I am pretty sure he was born and raised in Lubbock.
Hudson attended Texas Tech University and graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism and was a Texas Tech Cheerleader.

So Anne Hudson is moving from KASE to KVET?
I listen to KASE and like Anne Hudson – didn’t know she was a Tech grad. Very cool that two Tech grads will be on KVET together.

Congrats to them. Keep up the good work.
Does anyone know if Dale Dudley, who used to be a DJ in Lubbock, is still at KLBJ in Austin? He was hilarious.
wow!
Been in Austin for almost 6 years and had no idea the lovely Miss Hudson (I hope she is single ;] ) was a Tech grad! I always loved seeing her on ME Television hosting some Country Music (til TimWarner stopped carrying it.) Kudos to her and Chris Mosser. I might have to start tuning in to regular radio again now! well KVET that is.
I mean no disrespect at all
But why would a college grad aspire to be a DJ? I knew a guy that was a DJ in Houston the year after he got out of high school.
I get it if this is an entry-level position aimed at moving up the ladder into broadcasting mgmt, etc., but it seems that kind of job wouldn’t last for years and years.

I think being a DJ would be an awesome job
It takes a special talent like any job. You have to have personality, quick wit, charisma, etc. You get set short hours. Although I’m sure public events are part of the deal too. AND you get to go to concerts & meet your favorite artists!!
This is not directed at you at all TechFirst but it amazes me at the number of people who think people skills are not actually a “skill”. I work in a highly technical/scientific industry. Many of our scientists think those who are not PhDs are not truly “skilled”. At the same time, they don’t have the skills required to handle the other sides of the business, many of which involve people skills.

People skills
are, unfortunately, a dying skill set. I blame parents who let their kids talk to them in horrible ways and don’t either a) correct it or b) smack ‘em in the mouth. I also blame the internet and tv. Too many “talk” shows revolve around who can yell the loudest. Who cares if you have a valid point? If you’re the loudest, you’re obviously the most correct.
No wonder the world is going to end in 11 months!

Never a bad thing to have a degree to fall back on
when/if your passion (pro sports, art, marriage/children, DJ, etc.) doesn’t pan out.
My degree (RHIM)
Has ZERO to do with what I do now.
Plus, I like good DJs!

That gig pays pretty well.
At least it did for the previous morning show hosts. I think Chris happens by DTN from time to time.
I know Mosser is also a DJ and the producer of "The Roadhouse"
it runs in the evenings and plays local and Texas artists. I like it.
Mosser also is producer and mentor for a lot of “Red Dirt” artists.
Hudson is married and has at least one kid. She seemed at first to use the radio gig as a way to be a stay-at-home-Mom but also get out of the house a litle bit. She used to do the traffic reports but then KASE picked her up as a full-time DJ. She has Managed/Produced some of the smaller Music Festivals in the Central Texas area.
I will also add that the main radio personality they are replacing was at the station for 22years. They get all kinds of products and services and commisions for most of the advertisemements they run.
I hear ya on the getting a degree to become a DJ. One of my childhood friends, moved away in junir high school (moved to South Dakota) and became a DJ in the evening while at the age of 16 and then at 18 started working for the local TV station and became a producer for the station and moved on up the ranks to Mangement.
