ODDS AND ENDS | I meant to post this yesterday, but forgot and then ran across this second post and figured I'd post them both here. Barking Carinval has the updates on the new changes to the NCAA rules, which include football scholarships remaining at 85, rather than 80, and the biggest rule change, at least to me, is that multi-year scholarships are available to be given out for the 2012 class. Coincidentally, Blutarsky found an interesting article yesterday that got a lot of play, including an excellent write-up by Dr. Saturday's Matt Hinton, about how a kid, RB Justin Taylor, committed to Alabama and head coach Nick Saban back in August and just now told the kid that he no longer had a scholarship available, but that Saban would sign a piece of paper to show that he is keeping his word and give Taylor a scholarship in December or next year. Taylor did miss all of his senior season with a knee injury. Taylor also said that Saban would help him find a job. Taylor said late yesterday that he was going to look at his other options and Taylor's high school coach, a former NFL player Stanley Pritchett, wasn't happy with how it all went down.
BC also has an update on the class action lawsuit against the NCAA for using the likeness of players without compensation. Basically, when a player first steps foot on campus they have to sign a waiver where they release the rights to their likeness for perpetuity. That's a long time and players have banded together to do something about this. I'll have more on the Collegiate Licensing Company in a week or two.
LADY RAIDER BASKETBALL | For those of you with All-Access, you'll be able to watch tomorrow night's Baylor vs. Texas Tech game. Woot!.
RED RAIDER BASKETBALL | The men take on the Oklahoma Sooners tonight @ 7:00 pm in Norman. Preview later this morning.
LAJ's Nick Kosmider writes that this team is hoping to pick up the offensive pace and here's head coach Billy Gillispie:
"We played two really good teams defensively," Gillispie said of Kansas and A&M, "so I have to give them all the credit, but as far as what we need to do, we need to take care of the ball, and in intiating our offense we need to do a better job of having some pace."
RED RAIDER BASEBALL | Congrats to the 18 baseball players that had a GPA of 3.0 or higher!
TEXAS TECH FOOTBALL | Not much out there this morning. I will have some football stuff up tomorrow, so be sure to be on the edge of your seat until that happens. I did run across this blurb where former Red Raider Jamar Wall (who I think may not have an NFL gig, perhaps he was with the Eagles?) held a charity basketball tournament to raise $1,700 for St. Jude's Children Hospital. I also ran across a Q&A with RB Aaron Crawford as he hopes to catch on with an NFL team.

With regards to Justin Taylor
Its a sad commentary on the state of college sports. Oversigning, greyshirts and the like are all one sided in favor of the universtiy in my opinion. Couple that with the use of players’ likenesses for all time, it seems that the “slave mentality” still exists. I never had the pleasure of being recruited, nor am I close enough to a program to have information to that regard, but to me, it stinks much like that of an aTm locker room.
I am gratified to see the rule change for mulityear schollys, which could greatly level some of the playing fields of college ball. It will really pressure the HCs to “hire” wisely and then have to live with their choices.
Congrats to the baseball players and their grades. Any news on the football grades? Anyone? Anyone?
We ought to Haboob his ass
Fixed it for you ;-)
stinks much like that of an aTm charter bus.
Living large in Texas...Texas forever.
The USA better be packed and rocking on Wednesday night ….
The #17 Lady Raiders need to play their best basketball against the #1 Baylor Bears on Wednesday night. It would be so very great to get an upset and give the Lady Bears at least one loss this season.
Off-Topic Fan Shot tie in ..…. Morning crew Chris Mosser and Anne Hudson talked about DTN on the radio this morning on KVET 98.1 (Austin, TX.)
I posted this on the Fan Shot ….. (Clarification NOTE: Chris Mouser is actually a Texas State Bobcat Alum but ties himself to the Texas Tech Nation because he was raised in Lubbock and his Mom worked for the History Dept at Tech. He does stop by and checks out DTN from time to time. )

Seth, I just noticed the sunburst behind the masked rider
Awesome……………….almost wolf inspired.
We ought to Haboob his ass
I’ll have more on the Collegiate Licensing Company in a week or two.
This may get moved up to a day or two. And it’s not the Masked Rider. For the Collegiate Licensing Company, it’s clearly Will Rogers and Soapsuds wrapped in red.
Go Raiders . . .
Double-T Nation
Not intended for you, but the clarification is for the Collegiate Licensing Company, in case they are reading.
Go Raiders . . .
Double-T Nation
of course they are reading, can't find a better blog than DTN.

Seth, love the new logo
It’s got some Old West and Samurai mixed into it.

The new sunburst avatar looks great!
"We're Texas. We don’t derive our value or self-definition from conference affiliation.
If that strikes people as cocky, so what? It’s also true. None of us will chant our conference’s name when we have an off year and Texas Tech wins their bowl game. Our definition of self comes from us – not our conference, not our rivals, not media perception.
LOL - you are welcome to it.

If there's a question about using the Will Rogers graphic, tell them it's the statue in front of Will Rogers Coliseum in Ft Worth
And if Will Rogers Coliseum in Ft Worth asks, it’s a picture of the one at Tech. I believe there is a third identical statue somewhere in Oklahoma. Make the play the copyright shell game (To real copyright people reading this now, this is a joke. Carry on).
"...Fight for the school we love so dearly"
Congradulations to the Baseball players.
That’s a nice looking page too.
The sunburst reminded me of something
And this is what it reminded me of. http://teevault.com/tshirt/details/tee/che_guevara_sunburst_t_shirt

Oh no, Seth has a subliminal political message as the site logo.
