As a football fan

It’s really uncomfortable listening to a game with such a fast pace. The broadcaster has to talk like an auctioneer and there is no ebb and flow. Just constant chaos.

Seems to be a shootout so far, which I wasn’t expecting.

a true point guard

Will be needed to get this going. He’s not on the team now. Need our version of pressey for Mizzou.

Lewndowski

Doesn’t work at positioning for rebounding or defense….just lacks that fundamental.

the team

Would be better by subtracting nurse and lew. I’m not impressed with what bcg has done thus far. He better get some talent in ASAP

This team looks bad.

Youth or not. We need a guard that can take over the game to help Tolbert.

Boy ...

caught the last seven minutes of the game … we are outmanned and need better shooters. Liked the effort. Adams is small.

So...our men's basketball coach is working to trump our men's football coach with

uninspired play. This team is every bit as bad as last year’s from all accounts. Is youth a good excuse for this team?

11/12/11...66-6...I once was blind, but now I see.

To his credit, BCG doesn't claim youth as an excuse

And although there are some good teams out there that play freshmen, I would be hard-pressed to find a team with less experience. Only 3 players returned from last year’s team – just 1 senior and 2 sophs. The roster includes 7 true freshmen. Of the four transfers, only one has played significant minutes. Throw into that mix a new coach. It’s like starting from scratch. Most of the team is learning to play at a new level and even the returnees are learning a new system.

I have come to the conclusion that there is no point in trying to measure the success of this team by wins and losses. It appears BCG is trying to teach and to get the team to play up to his expectations; winning is secondary. Today’s game was a good example. The starting lineup was typical: Petteway, Nurse, Lew, Willis, Tolbert. Petteway only played 3 minutes. (This is not uncommon for him. He plays the fewest minutes of any “starter” I’ve ever seen.) Nurse played the entire first half and none the second half. Tolbert played just 14 minutes, little if any in the second half. Willis and Lew played the entire game. Crockett came off the bench for just 2 minutes. Two walk-ons (Lammert and Adams) played all or most of the second half.

Clearly, Tech did not have its best team on the floor for much of the game (and I am not aware of any injuries). So, I assume BCG is disciplining and trying to get some players’ attention. He may be more interested in shaping the team and program for the long term than stealing a couple meaningless wins this season. If this is correct, I have no problem with the approach. But the season could be even more difficult than I had thought.

It was good to see Lew have a nice game. And Lammert did a good job – especially for a freshmen walk-on.

It's gonna be a tough year

BCG’s known this for awhile, I’m guessing, and he’s doing what he has to do to build the foundation. He’s also letting everyone know clearly that he detests losing, but what has to be done must be done. Remember, he only won 4 or 6 games his first yeat at UTEP but had them in the big dance the next year—and two years later took an 0-16 (conference record) A&M squad to an NIT bid. I’m confident that BCG’s on the right track, but this rebuilding job is gonna be ugly at first, as we’re seeing.

How did Iowa St ... all the sudden get so good @ football and basketball ?

BTW, Seth...

I like the new logo. I always thought the old one was kind of uninspiring, and I’m glad you updated it. The Will Rogers statue is a cool look. The sunrays behind it took me awhile to get used to (looked like a 1960’s Mao poster), but I now think it looks cool as well. Nice job, we’re moving into the 21st Century now!
