Red Raider Gridiron | Texas Tech Football Recruiting Update
WHEELER AFFIRMS HIS COMMITMENT VIA THE TWITTER | LAJ's Don Williams writes that WR Dominique Wheeler had confirmed his commitment to Texas Tech via Twitter:
He seems to have made up his mind, though, after he made this Twitter post late Tuesday: "TexasTech is where I belong and that's where I'm going. So no questions ask that's where I'll be next year. #GunsUp"
I still can't bring myself to follow high school kids on Twitter as I feel incredibly creepy.
CONFIRMED TWO VISITS AND ANOTHER INTERESTED RUNNING BACK | We've all been following Arizona Western C.C. RB Damien Williams and his visit this weekend for a couple of weeks and now I think we have two confirmed visits, the other being El Camino C.C. DT Jordan Tavai (6-3/275) (Rivals | 24/7 Sports | Hudl video), who is apparently down to Kansas and Texas Tech and will visit Texas Tech this weekend:
"My first thought (about KU) was I was just going on a visit," he told Kirby. "But once I got there and started going through it, I realized I really like it. Now I will go see if I see Texas Tech the same way."
Tavai was a JUCO All-American this past year Kansas has three JUCO defensive linemen already committed, and I've already presented the fact that there are only four defensive tackles on the team, Tavai could probably play immediately for Texas Tech right now only have one JUCO defensive lineman, Lee Adams, on board.
One other name to watch, RB Michael Pierre (5-11/200) (24/7 Sports | YouTube) from Golden West College, who has dropped his commitment to New Mexico St. and is apparently looking at a handful of teams, which might include Texas Tech.
NOTEBOOK, NEWBOLD UPDATE AND I'VE HEARD THAT BEFORE | LAJ's Don Williams has a recruiting notebook where he talked with Damien Williams head coach, he talked with CB LaDarius Newbold and says that it would be hard to change his mind at this point and has this on DE Chase Robison:
Robison is from Memphis, Tenn., Christian Brothers. When he committed to Tech in August, the Red Raiders were the biggest program to offer him a scholarship. Since then, he’s picked up offers from Louisville, Colorado, North Carolina and now Tennessee.
I had this in yesterday's DTN DD:
The other news that's somewhat news is that there are now a lot of schools in on Texas Tech commit DE Chase Robison, as Tennessee has now come calling as well has Colorado, North Carolina and Louisville. Robison has always had smaller school offers (think Arkansas St.) and Texas Tech as the first large school that offered Robison, but I think that Tennessee has come calling as they're about to lose Dalton Santos to Texas.

Another DT would be great if
he’s actually 6-3 and could add some good weight. I’m not too excited about putting another 275 pounder in front of 320s.
"When you are right no one remembers, when you are wrong no one forgets."
I'm ok with 275 to 285 IF
they have strength and can tackle.
"you just need to find your inner pirate" ML
especially if they are any ken to Whitlock
"Oh, yeah. We don't even talk about Bowls much. We're so far away from being a team right now that can have a chance to compete in a Bowl." HC Tommy Tuberville.
Agreed...
I think Whitlock was listed at 6-2 and probably wasn’t that tall. Great strength, quickness, former wrestler who played with leverage. Hard worker who probably benefited greatly from have BW as his S&C coach. Which brings up a whole other subject.
"When you are right no one remembers, when you are wrong no one forgets."
Blame School Lunch Program
If they had not taken the cokes, candybars, funonions, whole milk and my favorite mystery fried burritos out of the schools … then maybe we might have more heavy set … big boned … candidates to choose from ….
"we did a lot of things well, but there are several areas that need improving, our idea of moving forward is to do things that make you improve" - Jason Garrett
And don't forget Washinton State, that would be funny

Weis is a heck of a recruiter ...
Dayne Christ, 5 star QB who has graduated from ND and has one year of eligibility left, has enrolled at KU and will be their starter. Reason for transfer: Doesn’t fit Brian Kelley’s system. He was the number one pro style QB in 2009.
Jake Heaps, 5 star QB from BYU, has transferred to KU and will have two years of eligibility left after he sits this year. Reason: Lost his job as a Sophomore after an injury. I believe that he was the number one pro style QB in 2010.
Some 5 star WR from OU, has transferred to KU to be closer to home (from KC area). I guess there are some personal circumstances to his story and KU is cautiously optimistic that the NCAA will waive sitting out a year rule. He will have three years of eligibility left.
The current number one and two QB’s have left their program.

Like I have said before;
KU got smart and went out and got another fat person as HC, they know what works. We could be last in the Big 12 next year. I guess we could also be first since we bring back more players than anyone else in the nation and Big 12.

Ha! There it is ... nothing else needs to be said ...
Mangino : Weis :: Leach : Holgerson
Right?

Bingo and Shock the Monkey

I hope we’re joking and not really lauding the coaching job of Charlie Weis. The same guy that took Willingham’s players and was good, but when he got his guys in, they weren’t good at all (3-9, 6-7 and 6-6). I’m not saying I’m pumped up about Tuberville, but I don’t want any part of Weis. Crist is actually okay, but Heaps was awful and was given a ton of opportunity. I don’t know anything about the other transfers, but usually when players transfer from big programs (and this could also be said for Javares McRoy) they have had a hard time getting into the rotation and maybe aren’t as good as the initial recruiting hype.
Go Raiders . . .
Double-T Nation
And “awful” is probably too strong of a word, but he wasn’t good. Only 5.8 YPA and 9 TD’s to 8 INT’s. That’s not good for a spread QB. Compare to Doege who had 6.9 YPA, 28 TD’s and 10 INT’s and I don’t think Doege was bad, but he could have been a lot better.

Just that he can recruit ...
since he came on board, he is turning a lot of recruits heads. Whether he can coach them or they can play is a different story as we have learned with our group.

And yes, joking having some fun, except for the Leach: Holgerso reference.

I feel really, really good about the future of the Offense
….and really, really bad about the future of the defense.
