Around SBN: Shaq As Orlando Magic General Manager? Don't Bet On It

"Tyler (Texas) Lee center Conner Grooms has committed to play football at Texas Tech. The three-star standout hosted Tommy Tuberville and Neal Brown today, and accepted the Red Raiders' preferred walk-on offer."

and

"The Red Raiders head into the 2012 season with very little experience at the center position, so the 6-foot-4, 280-pound prospect should have a great chance to get on the field and earn a scholarship."

This is about 2 or 3 walk-ons now for this year, I think.

If any scholarship players back out of fail to produce, hopefully one or two of these guys will be able to step up and earn a scholarship and help the team be successful. Welcomr to Raider Land, Conner. GUNS UP!

Rose,

I sure hope this is wrong. I think if it is true, it is evidence Tuberville and Brown are moving completely away from a pass first offense. Of all the QBs at Tech, I thought Scotty had the needed tools to be a great QB for Tech, but in a pass first scheme. I think Karem saw this coming, too, and that is why he did not stay at Tech. Both remaining QBs (Doege and Brewer)can run and pass, as can the incoming QB (Nicholas). I don’t know how good a passer Kenan Ward is, but he is the same type athlete seen in Mike Vick. I think he moves to a receiver spot. Plus there is Costilla, who seems to be a pocket style QB. It will be an interesting Spring, to say the least, when it comes to the QB slot and who will take the lead.

I hope he is someone we can coach up.

Let’s see if these new (but older) coaches can work some miracles. Sounds like we are gettin some size on the lines now too.

TTpilk, I am not sure that running is what we can expect from Nicholas.

can run and pass, as can the incoming QB (Nicholas).

Seth wrote:

Nicholas threw for 3,003 yards, completing 65.7% of his passes, 30 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. For those of you interested in passing yards per attempt, Nicholas threw for 10.1 yards/attempt. The other interesting thing is that Nicholas only rushed for 43 yards for the entire season. Obviously, you have sacks included in that, but despite having a fake 40-yard dash time of 4.71, which is fast enough, Nicholas is sticking in the pocket and throwing the ball.

I am not saying he cannot run, but his profile implies that he is a passy kind of guy. ;-)

Hmmm

Maybe just wishful thinking. I do know from viewing his film, He throws the purest pass I have seen, comparable to Kurt Warner. His throwing motin was exceptional. Nicholas has that same motion. To be able to stick at Tech under Tubs, though, he may need to be able to move around fairly well. Here’s hoping.
