This just might be the first commit for new defensive back's coach, John Lovett. According to Falemi's Rival's profile, Lovett is responsible for recruiting Texas Tech's newest commit, Olaoluwa Falemi, also known as Ola, and talks a bit about Lovett initially contacting him last week. So I find this a bit interesting in that this is a guy that Lovett targeted, and the other interesting thing is that I couldn't find where Falemi was being offered by any other major college and affirms that in his statements below. He was certainly interested in some other schools, but I couldn't find any verification that the feeling was mutual.
The Player Speaks
Falemi spoke with LAJ's Don Williams about his trip to Lubbock this weekend and Williams also spoke with Falemi's defensive coordinator in JUCO:
“Ola has come a long way,” L.A. Harbor defensive coordinator Reuben Ale said. “His first year here, he was a part-time starter. This past year, he just blossomed. He really did some great things for us. He was our top cover corner.
“He led our special teams in tackles as well. He never came out of the game (defensively). Super kid, super athlete. He’s going to do some good things at the next level.”
Falemi also says that Morgan St. and Idaho were offering, so there's that.
DMN's Mike Graham spoke with Falemi who says that he expects to start:
"I was just waiting for a phone call, and Texas Tech hit me up," Falemi told RedRaiderSports.com. "(Secondary) coach John Lovett called me, he saw my tape, he needed a corner to come in and play and start. He found my highlight tape and he told me he wanted me and needed me here."
"They expect me to come in and fight for a starting job," Falemi told RedRaiderSports.com. "I'm a JUCO player, I'm coming into start but, at the same time, I have to fight for the position. They said it's up for grabs. They said I have the talent to start, I just have to come here and show it."
Scouting Report
In checking out Falemi's video on Hudl (see the link on the box on the right, Falemi is actually playing some pretty nice cornerback. A lot of man coverage and a lot of plays on special teams. At cornerback, Falemi looks fairly adept, however, the problem is that I don't have any idea as to the competition. In fact, most JUCO's are listed in the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletics Association), but Los Angeles Harbor C.C. is no where to be found. You can see his season statistics for 2011 and he was third on the team in tackles with 60 tackles, 3.5 TFL, 1 INT and 4 passes broken-up. Again, the problem is that there's not telling how good the competition is in this particular instance.
On special teams, Falemi looks like a go-getter, more than willing to be a gunner on special teams and go make some plays. The more I think about this, the more that this feels like a guy that can fill in some gaps in a handful of spots, much like IR/RB/PR/KR Sadale Foster, from cornerback to being a special teams coverage maven.
I've given Falemi an "Incomplete" as of right now. As you may or may not know, these cumulative rankings are dependent on at least a couple of these services actually rate the player and right now, Falemi is only rated by Rivals, so he gets an incomplete for now.
Olaoluwa, welcome to Texas Tech and Git Your Guns Up!
The recruiting table is after the jump.

This is a little bit scary when no one else of significance offered.
However, I do not know the talent or potential and I have to trust those whose future is on the line to get some good players. Is Ola one of those we were really going after? Are we “done”?
This year's class is going to be a big ??
Last year I took it hook line and sinker we were going to be transformed thru recruits
Thats what we were led to believe along with our general fan optimism
This year, I really dont care

Blaze a trail, spend some time in West Texas, feel the sand sting your skin and burn your eyes, let the winter dry your hands, learn that its there only because our ancestors didn’t want to be around other people … that’s West Texas
Thats big question mark not big or I doubt its going to be big
Im just anxious to see if the staff can get some fight and fire and build a team
Bringing in a bunch of older JUCO guys cant be good for team chemistry when the younger guys have put in their time

But the coaches will have chemistry now...
So that will solve all problems… unless it doesn’t….

When Tuberville was hiring coaches previously, he stated that the number one thing he looked for in the interview process was chemistry. I questioned this as a number one thing for hiring a coach. One might want to look at things like coaching ability and such.

who knew?
but, as a youth, i excelled in Chemistry until I hit the wall with organic…….maybe the staff needs to retake that.

I like the incomplete with Falemi.
He seems to be passed over somewhat, I don’t know to assign that to his ability or that the system cannot possibly catch every good kid playing good football. I think some of that rests on the shoulders of his current coach and perhaps his contacts for his players.
He shows a 4.4 forty !!! He played with confidence in the video, looked decisive, made plays, tackled like a lot of guys we see everyday, and showed interest in being busy doing his job.
Maybe we have a player !!

I hope so, TM.
Sometimes a “kid” does not serious about their grades till the deadline, sometimes they bloom late, some schools and parents and coaches do a poor job of shopping their players. When my son was in his junior and senior year, there was a wide variety of situations. Some of the kids definitely had people doing PR and dropping names and pulling in return favors for them, others showed up barely with a decent pair of cleats. I hope the coaches found a diamond in the rough.
They all look prettier at closing time...and it is getting late

Anyone know
if we have a decent chance at getting RB Damien Williams? I understand he visited the campus this past weekend.
It's all good.

I just heared on Ticket 760 that he was committed to ATM.
I think they said it was between Arkansas and ATM, but looks like ATM.
"Oh, yeah. We don't even talk about Bowls much. We're so far away from being a team right now that can have a chance to compete in a Bowl." HC Tommy Tuberville.
Must be someone else, Damien Williams is deciding between OU and TTU.

As with any recruit, it’s a crapshoot. Remember Garrett Gilbert ? Highly sought after but was a bust at UT. Remeber Wes Welker? Not highly recruited but an impact player.

Welcome to Tech Ola!
Get ready to play!
Other thoughts
- Interesting year. 40% of our recruits are JUCO’s. We have 10 JUCO commits. Kansas State has 5 JUCO recruits.
- Ola went from 0 stars to 3-stars in a single day after he committed to Tech. Before he committed to Tech, he was unranked with one independently verified offer from Akron.
/The recruiting ranking system is so credible./
"This time it's different."
But yaaay ! We now know that a TTU recruit is worth 3 stars !!
