Scotty Young transferring
This is per Chris Level. I don't know any other details and this is the first I've heard of this. Anybody else heard anything about this?

Am guessing that Michael Brewer might be leap-frogging Young and Karam. I wish Young the best, but it seems that the staff might really love what Brewer brings to the table.

Brewer is a stud.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he pressed Doege for playing time this year.
"Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips."
I went to high school/college with Dewhurst...
and his words were Young was not good, looked worst than Potts did in practice mobility wise and never was that accurate or strong of an arm. Said Brewer is the real deal though so I have to imagine that has a lot to do with it
Your friend was a good, solid player for us
Dewhurst was often overlooked but we wish him the best.
Thanks for the info
Throw first and ask questions later.
I watched one game of SY in HS, and I thought the same. I good accurate pass but not much on it.
Coincidentally the QB of their opponent that night was (I believe) the current QB at Mizzou

Personally,
from what little ive seen of the kid…he has great mechanics and a great arm….but he lacks maturity. I really liked him too so Im sad I wont get to see him play. I guess its better this way

Per Level with a follow up tweet:
RE: Young’s transfer. It’s seemed obvious for months to those close to the #TexasTech program that Michael Brewer is Doege’s heir apparent.

Brewer
I do seem to remember hearing that Brewer was nipping at Young’s heels even way back in spring practice last year. With all they hype Young had coming in, I never thought he’d get passed though.
Yes, he actually graded out as the highest QB in the spring and fall.
I have been watching this guy since his junior year in HS, even before he announced Tech. Did not think we had a shot at this guy. Father graduated from UT and all. But here he is.
Good news, I am really excited about what he can do, but for the record, I was big on Glasgow too.
"Oh, yeah. We don't even talk about Bowls much. We're so far away from being a team right now that can have a chance to compete in a Bowl." HC Tommy Tuberville.
But Brewer is legit.
He can run and pass. Perfect for a Neal Brown Offense.
"Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips."
? Baseball ?
I see rumors on other sites that he is concentrating on Pitching vs Football ?

So
if we fire Neal Brown…..you like whatever it is that Tubs would bring in to replace him?

we run a read option
with an optionless Quarterback who is unable to run as fast as the guys blocking ahead of him. The only time that is a threat is when we are in the Endzone. Which, with this offense, is not that often. Our offense is vanilla and predictable at BEST.
Neal has his flashes (OU game), yes. But no way in hell do I believe he is a great offensive coordinator.
I mean, Unless you believe running draw plays on 4th and 25 is a good call, then I cant help ya.
#FireNealBrown
the only thing I want is
For us to make up or minds on what offense it is that we run. Whether it’s the spread, the Pistol or the Air Raid. Hell even one back. I dont care. FInd one, perfect it, and stick with it.
I remember a pirate did that with his offense, once upon a time..
#FireNealBrown
I'm with you...
But my sense is that anything tubs would replace Nb with would send us to the stone ages. As is, I can pound a few guiness and squint…and it kinda looks ‘in the same ballpark’ of what we’ve done in the past. I’m just being pragmatic…

Agreed, NB is our last thread to the past.

Good luck Scotty!
There were times last year Seth looked Harrell’esque. Other times Potts’esque. I’m excited about Brewer though. I think tubs will still go with Doege bc his job is on the line. No time to gamble w/ a new qb.
Teach me how to Doege teach me teach me how to Doege!!!
Best of luck to him
I wish he would stay but I can certainly understand a kid wanting to do what’s in his best interest. I wish him well.

I don’t really like it either, but it seems to be a trend. Gilbert is transferring from UT and is now at SMU. Padron is transferring from SMU. Karam and now Young. It’s usually a numbers game and these QB’s want to get on the field.
Go Raiders . . .

I seen that trend
For the last 5 years. Not a fan

Too many on the roster
The trend is to sign a QB every year. Eventually, somebody’s going to get buried in the depth chart, or only hope to have 1 year to start. Get used to guys transferring if they get passed up. Happens in the corporate world all the time.
Except we had two transfer out in one year.
That means our new QB recruit is number three on the depth chart.
"Oh, yeah. We don't even talk about Bowls much. We're so far away from being a team right now that can have a chance to compete in a Bowl." HC Tommy Tuberville.
Brant Costilla thinks otherwise!
And yes, I get the roster implication, but it still seems likely that Brewer was in front of both of them.

I don’t have a huge problem with it. QB’s transfer (Daugherty and Todd).

It is a shame for Scotty to have wasted 2 years, but it is what it is and he did get an education.
I would love to hear Scotty’s thoughts on why he is leaving.

It is disappointing but he will have 2 to years to play. Most players that transfer seek playing time and would guess that is the case.

My initial reaction when I first read the headline
was similar to blackbeard’s. I hate to lose him. And Karam.
But, I’m excited about everything y’all are saying about Brewer. Plus, Young has to do what is right for him so I wish him the best. Anyone know where he’s going?

I am sorry to see him leave
I hope he lands somewhere that makes him happy and where he can use his talent

I am sad to see Scotty Young leave Tech.
I really thought he had what it takes to be a QB at Tech, but with all the talent at that position that was accumulated over the last few years, anyone that came in as a heralded QB, but sank in the depth chart, had to believe in themselves enough to give it a try elsewhere. I hope for the best for Scotty. Houston may need some help, so it would be nice to see him there. As for Brewer, he is the real deal. it has been said many times how he pushe last year as a true freshman. Tis Spring should really be interesting. We still have three QBs on the staff, so a lot of work needs to be done to gain an edge. As I have said before, with the kind of offense being used now, Keenan Ward might really surprise a bunch of people when he gets on campus and suits it up. WRECK ’EM, TECH!

Hopefully, his baseball career is still an option.

scotty would have been a good qb at tech.
But his chances are better as a pitcher. Too much talent at qb for all of them to get an opportunity. Plus NB recruited brewer so of course he wants him to play.

Humorous
It never ceases to amaze me that the most popular guy on any team is always the unproven backup quarterback. Something about the grass is always greener…..hmmm…what was that saying.
huh?

I think that saying
is something about grass, and it being greener…maybe somewhere else? I don’t know but I’m sure I’ve heard it before…it’s on the tip of my tongue…

Not that I predicted this move from Young
or Karam. But given the glut of young talent at QB, it’s hard to imagine that all these guys were going to spend their entire careers at Tech.
Tebow / Leak
Did anyone follow Florida during that NC year ? I believe Tebow was a Freshman. Leak was the general and Tebow has the short yardage QB.
I would love to see that type of dual threat , of course Brewer isn’t Tebow, I think MB can actually throw.

For perspective, UT transfers just this year:
(Defensive tackle Calvin) Howell joins a long list of former Longhorns that have left Texas since the beginning last year. Quarterbacks Garrett Gilbert and Connor Wood, along with running back Traylon Shead, linebacker Tariq Allen, and wide receivers Greg Timmons, Chris Jones, and Darius White are among the transfers on that list.

Thank you for this one !
I am really surprised with the receivers who left. As a group they could make a good corps.
