Glasgow returns to TCU.

Forgive me if this doesn't come out right. First time trying to post.

But according to Coachingsearch.com former DC Chad Glasgow has returned to TCU. He is probably wondering why he ever left. I don't blame him a bit for leaving if he wasn't going to be consulted about possible hires then hell yeah he should be pissed. I think Tubs is calling all (old) hands on deck to try and salvage this year because Hocutt has told him this is it.

Again sorry for the inexperience.

Good for Glasgow

See, it’s not Chad’s personality or skill set, TCU and staff are happy to have him back. I am of the opinion, that Tubbervill must be a meadalsome, ineffective, autocrat that people can’t stand to be around…once his assistants figure out how inept he is, and they can no longer stand to be around him, he blames them for his lack of skill, at coaching & dealing with people.

Further, I can’t believe these coaches would go through the hassle of packing & moving, for a 10 month job! What a pain in the ass, for their families & children!

I agree

and from what I have seen on the CBSCS Confidential, the behind the scenes stuff is about like the empty shirt we get at the podium.

and funny you bring up the travel deal, those young guys get so accustomed to it that when they finally do land and HC for awhile their egos go through the roof.

BTW: Sherman may be going back to the NFL for the Bucs

Doesnt really say anything about the TTU situation

He is obviously a good position coach as he was retained for 10 years at TCU. No one knows what happened here at Tech. I am sure there were no broken bridges between Patterson and Glasgow when we left. Patterson understood he was taking a leap to a promotion (DC) in a better conference (also a promotion). Once it didnt work out, he was welcomed back as he was an asset to their staff. Also there is no love loss between TTU and TCU.

by Leacherhere on Jan 4, 2012 12:57 PM CST up reply actions

Thank goodness that we have rid ourselves of this cancer

TCU can have him all they want but I can bet that they won’t be crazy enough to make him a DC. He will go back to being a safeties coach, which is pretty much all that he knows about defense.

My only worry is that given his weak ethical standards, he is going to pass on all of our classified information related to recruiting and game planning to Patterson and Co. I hope we are prepared to deal with this.

Really?

Although I will say some of my best learning experiences have come out of having a bad boss/work situation that was not a good fit. Didn’t mean I wasn’t good at what I did, just meant I wasn’t in the ideal situation given my skill set and/or the “leadership” style of my boss. Still an experience for professional growth though.

I dont think anyone thinks he did a great job, but the facts are simple. Tubs hired him. He was inexperience. He coached the same (not good enough, not fast enough, not strong enough…) players coach tubs complains to the media about. How was he given a fair shake at DC? If anything Tubs is getthing his second pass and Glasgow is getthing the boot. I would argue CG is not happy with getthing demoted, but is happy to be back to a winning program where he at least has job security. Not the same here at TTU.

I'm not sure how good of job he did or not

I don’t know how much of a free reign he was given or if he was on a short leash. Whatever the situation, I’m glad he landed on his feet and it appears Tuberville is assembling a defense staff that will have “chemistry”. Very important.

Overall, I don’t believe the situation was handled well. Unfortunately, that seems to be status quo these days at Tech when it comes to the football program.

I recognized a lack of leadership at a coach-meet last Spring.

Tuberville and coaches came through DFW after a clinic and RRC emailed members they would be at a hotel for a meet and greet. Tubs came out and only seemed most interested in getting a drink. Spent most of our time talking to Neal Brown who really impressed wife and I. We believe it’s a matter of time before Brown becomes head coach somewhere. Was NOT impressed after meeting Tubs.

by RaiderP1 on Jan 4, 2012 3:19 PM CST reply actions

two things on this...

You can argue all you want as to whether he should have ever been hired.
But, given his results, or lack of, should he not have been canned? And if he’s only knowledgeable about the 4-2-5, and Tech was out on that, why would he stay or they want him to?
Secondly, who other than TCU would think he has worth?
Probably good riddance from both parties’ perspectives.

another funny thing...

It’s quite interesting the diametrically opposed povs where Tubs is concerned on this message board, as opposed to the rp board.
I realize that’s run by the alumni association and they feel some poor need to kiss his butt all the time, but wow, this is refreshing!
And I further cringe if we could have had Holgorsen, watching what he’s doing to Clemson tonight in the Orange Bowl.

Whoooo!

Good grief, could you imagine what WVU would’ve run up on Tubs’ Raiders tonight? And I thought the OSU game was ugly. A repeat of the famous UH/Tulsa score of 100-6 might have been possible.

I’m with you: reading the RP board with its constant admin butt-kissing gets rather nauseating, especially with its Pravda-like overtones towards opposing viewpoints. But I’m noticing a lot more opposing viewpoints are surfacing over there, and its making the regulars somewhat uncomfortable. Hope that part keeps happening!

I watch these teams like WVA and it kills me that was once us, and now if Tubs ever got ahead by 17, hell 10 points he would slow it down to “protect” the lead. The best way to protect a 10 point lead is to make it a 24 pt lead.

Now we will be subject to our own roots and be powerless to stop it ! Thats like US foreign policy, arming a country and a decade later, them turning the weapons back on you.

They will have many of the same problems we did

when facing elite competition (TX and esp OU) a good D-Line can neutralize lots of the Air Raid. Hands in the air, knocking balls down, fast enough laterally to stop the draw plays and smart enough to not over run the pass rush and open it up for the middle screens.

Dont even get me started on the Man v Zone coverage, now all that being said they can exploit 70-80% of the SEC teams but they will also be facing more ball control offenses which they better be able to stop or they may never see the ball

Did anyone else see that 4th down conversion that Okie Lite made v Stanford. One guy on the line v Blackmon and one guy over. The quick slant was there all night for at least six yards + the missed tackles

Big 12 & SEC schools play non-conference games once in a blue moon

That’s why gauging conference strength on bowl games played 6 weeks after the season ends is so bogus. SEC offenses are so simple a six week layoff doesn’t affect them one bit. RB’s looking for holes is all instinct. The spread and pass heavy offenses played in most of the rest of the country almost always struggle in the 1st half of bowl games because of the long layoff. The SEC has a structural advantage with the current bowl system. We’ll see how they do when playoffs finally arrive. Especially if they schedule the playoffs to begin the week after the conference title games.

"Transition is hard." - TT

by Houston Raider on Jan 6, 2012 11:20 PM CST up reply actions

I think we all know

if there is any team in the SEC that is anything like your typical Big 12 team, it’s Arkansas. Statistically they’re the #1 passing team in the SEC and #9 (I’m pretty sure) defense in the SEC. Sounds pretty Big 12 to me, and as we saw, excellent defense and ground and pound will more times than not beat spread offenses if those offenses aren’t good enough (and I mean GOOD) to execute against those SEC defenders and usually they are not. It’s a particularly good day if a spread offense can beat a stout defense that is just as good at running the ball. As long as Bama and LSU keep doing what they’re doing on defense, a Big 12 passy happy offense will never win. It’s the perfect antidote. Have you seen the Sports Science segment on LSU’s DB’s and Bama’s D linemen? You literally have to have an NFL offense to compete.

by Noah Lot on Jan 7, 2012 1:35 AM CST up reply actions

And by NFL offense I mean

If Brady, Welker, Gronk, Hernandez, Branch, Light, Solder, Koppen, Mankins and Conally aren’t on your team, then you’re done.

by Noah Lot on Jan 7, 2012 1:46 AM CST up reply actions

OK... thanks for further explanation...

First, I don’t completely disagree with your premise in a general sense…
However, I don’t think you can state it as an absolute (which part of your statement definitely does not… but then you do follow up and say “a Big 12 pass happy offense will never win.”)
Actually, I think your Arkansas example proves mbrown’s point exactly…
I’m an LSU fan (conveniently adopted them since my wife is a Tiger alum)…
The fact is that, although I always think LSU has the better, more dominant team, Arkansas almost always gives LSU fits…
Arkansas has beaten LSU 3 of the past 5 years in conference play!
I’m not so sure LSU would be quite as dominant if they had to play 4 or 5 such teams in conference every year a la the Big 12….

by Houston Raider on Jan 7, 2012 8:07 AM CST up reply actions

True, I was incorrect to say a passy happy offense will never win against them, but with the kind of defense Bama and LSU have displayed this year, all those players could probably at least make a roster on an NFL team after a complete collegiate career. All I’m trying to say is that if you’re a Big 12 offense against an SEC defense (such as LSU or Bama, not Ole Miss or Vandy), you better be as good as it gets and a lot of that starts with the talent level before coaching sets in. You have to have the speed and soft hands to keep up with those DBs, and huge linemen to keep off those monster D linemen and one of the most accurate QB’s you can get. Even then you still should have some form of running game.

After thinking about this one for a bit.

I would not be surprised to learn that this deal with TCU goes something like TTU to TCU, if you will help Glasgow get back on your staff we will pay his first year’s salary. (TTU kind of owe’s him the money anyway)

That could be a good compromise for TTU opposite the two year contract that we had with him. It also helps keep his career alive and looks like a good thing to do after having hired him away from his nest on the ground at TCU.
