Around here football is bigger than the state of Texas!
Do you REALLY
want to schedule Alabama with this team? I holding my breath for the Texas State game to be a victory.
2012. 9 wins. No Excuses, Tommy.
Texas state is no joke.
They just moved to Division 1 (WAC) and are getting transfers from other D1 schools and JUCO’s.
They will be better this year.
My heart says 8-4.
My head says 4-8. I guess my liver will have to settle it.

i concur with this
I’d switch the WVU win to a loss and transfer the win to texas, and transfer the OSU to TCU.
I’m optimistic about next season despite the hangover this last one has caused. I see the pieces falling into place
I just figured OSU is breaking a new QB and we are playing them at home.
It would be nice to beat all the Texas teams.
Osu with a new quarterback...
sounds good in September/october…when we were orginally scheduled to play them…
But in Late November, I think it gives him too much time to get used to Big 12 defenses…just my opinion.
2012. 9 wins. No Excuses, Tommy.
Either way.
I stand by my sig…
9 wins. No less. No excuses. Or be gone, Tommy.
2012. 9 wins. No Excuses, Tommy.
I will gladly take 8-4 right now.
My gut tells me its going to be rough sleding in the Big 12. I see three conference losses for sure, and six 50/50’s.
Rhodes has Tommy’s number, so no way we beat Iowa State. We are in OU’s head, so I am going to take this one. Dana is giong to be loaded on offense, and this will be his homecoming, so no way we win this one. With the exception of Texas, I think the rest of the schedule is 50/50.
So again, I will take 8 wins today right now. Surely, with all the JUCO talent on defense, we can outscore a few along the way.
"Oh, yeah. We don't even talk about Bowls much. We're so far away from being a team right now that can have a chance to compete in a Bowl." HC Tommy Tuberville.
Iowa State
Hopefully the Linemakers havent caught on that we cant beat Iowa State but my guess is that they have and will lower the odds on that game
I was in Vegas for that one, but my betting strategy had not progressed to that point yet, a few weeks later I discovered the money lines and really learned how to use them (ML is win with no points, think horse racing)

It better be 8-4 or 9-3
Please make this program “relevant” again. I hated it last year when people just didn’t care. That’s worse than anything, in my opinion.
And please don’t quit any games again. This applies to players and coaches alike. We could be 8-4, but if we quit in games like we did last year (UT, I-State, and OSU games), Tubby will need to resign if that happens. There’s one thing that Tubby needs to learn about West Texas. We hate to lose, but we hate it even more if they quit and lose.

Every team in the conference gets two in-season bye weeks except Tech and ISU. Our 2nd bye is at the end of our season on December 1st.

Yep.
We got hosed last year too when they made us play OU @ OU for two years in a row.

Agreed.
I wish I could see a bright 2012 season but I don’t.
Maybe 7 wins and 6 losses if we catch a break , play above our heads or catch someone off their game like the Oklahoma game from last year.
In fact I could even buy into only one Big 12 win (Kansas) in 2012.
Glad to see you are so optimistic.

B- you're right.
I’m not optimistic. Hopefully, my predictions will be wrong and we’ll have a successful (however one defines success) season.
Should have been sarcastic font LOL

this doesn't make sense to me
Doege will have the necessary experience, everyone will actually be healthy, new coaches are all proven veterans at what they do, Adam James gone, Michael Brewer waiting in the wings, the highly ranked 2011 class actually being of the necessary size and experience etc.
There are a lot of positives. We had most of the pieces last year, we just got screwed by injuries/Doege under enormous pressure/Stephens/Glasgow being toxic/ etc.
I think we pull of an 8-4.
dont listen to them...
I said it from the beginning, Tubs needs 2 years, who thought meant we would all be happy heading into the 3rd year? I didn’t, this is the year he earns the Tech fans respect
Everyone was healthy when last year started, too.
That didn’t last long.

How do we
get that eighth loss? Do we lose the bye week?
I vote for that, maybe they will drop to five instead of raise you one to seven.

Will possibly pass either this year or next, per national writers on Twitter.
11/12/11...66-6...I once was blind, but now I see.
Well they got backdoored into that fake championship game, the conference basically made them take an additional loss since USC was on proby

Their 8th loss actually came in the bowl.
As Gus said, their 7th loss came in the inaugural Pac 12 championship game.
Why do you think we’ll just lose one of the bye weeks??? ;-)

No matter how many wins we get this year
they better learn how to win on the road cause next year is gonna be rough,
@ Austin
@ Norman
@ Morgantown
uh....
Last year it was our HOME record that was abyssmal, we actually did “ok” on the road (won AT Oklahoma, lost at home to Iowa State), I think we really need to prove that we can own Lubbock again before worrying how next year’s road slate looks. Also, IMO, Tuberville NEEDS to prove he can beat Texas considering the chatter when he came on board.

you have to take chances to generate your own momentum”
Hey Tommy ! Were the red freakin raiders look in the closet there might be some game films still in there ! We pass on 3rd and short, we pass on 4th and short and once we cross the fifty the punter can sit back down,
one more thing, onside kicks are not good risks, ever!

To bad the TCU game will be in Fort Worth in 2012
It would be a hoot to see (or hear) the reception the Tech crowd would give for Chad Glasgow. We won’t know their reaction until 2013.
For some reason, and it has zero to do with the ex-DC, I simply cannot digest any thought of losing to TCU.
I have no idea how we will do coming season.
I want to win every game, no matter what.

It's going to be a rough year
We won’t win a game from Sep 29 to Nov 3….
I don’t think we can beat the bobcats…..
That may be that game where the eyes get a orange glow in them and a develish chuckle moans out for an early departure for the hc….
Hopefully we can go 3-0 before we drop the next 6, then roll the dice on KU, stomped by OSU then rolling the dice once more for BU……at most it’s a 5 win season……I just dont see how it will be better…..our so called hc has had the recruits, jc transfers….blah blah, top 25 recruiting classes….there is just a disconnect and I personally don’t think the fix lies within his capabilities.
I for one will watch the first few series before the car crash when televised (because of our opponent,) but will not be going to any games other than the TCU game….well because of season tickets, but while my ring will show my pride for the university and that I’m a proud CASNR product, I’ll still wear purple…

really?
You think we will get beaten by Texas State? Wut?
We had a top 10 offense this year, and all the pieces of that offense are returning. If our defense is even slightly better (which it should be), we will be fine.
This is the most absurdly fatalist post i’ve seen in a while.
Umm
Out of the recruits and transfers that we “had” this last season, these are the players that either did not go through spring workouts or were RS and did not play this last year:
-Bradley Marquez
-Delvon Simmons
-Pete Robertson
-Leon Mackey
-Sam Equavon
-Jakeem Grant
-Javares McRoy
-Derek Edwards
-Deandre Washington
-Jace Amaro
-Happiness (Junior) Osunde
-Sadale Foster
-Kenny Williams
-Theirry Nguema
-JJ Gaines
-Chris Payne
-Will Smith
-Alfredo Morales
-Tony Morales
-Rashad Fortenberry
-Jared Kaster
-Le’Raven Clark
-Javon Bell
-Tyson Williams
-Branden Jackson
-Lee Adams
-Donte Phillips
These are only the “big names” and there are several others. This is how different the team should be this upcoming year.
7-5. This is a tough schedule
I, for once, am happy we have a breezy non-conf schedule to go along with playing 8 teams who played in a bowl and 6 who won their bowl.

I see 6 or 7 wins
possibly 8 if we win a bowl game.
No stinking way to predict how we will be on defense. I’m hoping the conventional 4-3 fits our personnel and incoming coaches. Infusion of JUCO defensive help can’t hurt.
I thought our offense was clunky last year. We moved the ball sporadically during the first half of the season. With the exception of Missouri, the offense sputtered following the OU game.
No stinking telling.
While I am much subdued about the Raiders chances in 2012 I have to remind everyone the team lost 3 x games by 7 or less. They looked to be competitive vs aTm, lost even when they recovered an on side kick versus K-state at the tail end of the 4th period and Doege threw an interception on the 8 or 10 yard line of Mizzou At Columbia while driving to score the go ahead. Yes the ut, Iowa state and Okie-lite games were execrable. We need more defensive down linemen. Period. But look at what the opponents are going to experience Baylor is not going to have a ton of fun without RGIII, Kstate has graduated 5 seniors on defense and 3 on offense, WVU is like us they can’t play defense so whoever figures out how to create a pile on 2nd short is going to win that one. OSU graduated and sent to the draft everybody who made any of the numerous post season honors list. TCU has some momentum but they don’t field any all American QB’s or Running backs. OU …well its OU. UT I think they struggle next year. Just because they are moving to power running set I think Iowa state will be tough to beat in 2012. But the Cyclones graduated that monster Offensive tackle so maybe our defensive ends do have a shot..Kansas looks to be in disarray again with a new retread Charlie Weiss..maybe.
The bad news is it’s year three of the Tuberville hire and we have a 3rd Defensive coordinator… that D line is flakey and without a 50 position positive movement in total defense it’s not going to matter if the Raiders can average 32 plus a game- which they did in 2011. The 4-3.. hmmmm its worth a shot. I am sober and I am a bit apprehensive to see what they do in spring practice.
Distant Raider, TechCuz and Westxscrub I think you are all about right, high end is 8 wins..think Bowl Baby..

Any word on which schools requested the schedule change?
Except for Baylor, all the conference games changed from the previously leaked schedule a week ago. And we get a bye at the end of the season.
I’m guessing Texas. Their AD wanted tcu for thanksgiving. word on the street is they are rotating that thanksging game every year. maybe we play them next thanksgiving.

When was the last time OU beat Tech in Lubbock?
Im not saying that Tech is going to beat OU this year but you cant count them out.. I truly believe this team will have a winning record this year.. If the defense comes out and plays ball then they can compete in every game.. 4-3 formation is alot easier then the 4-2-5 scheme.. Also OSU just suspended their #1 WR for the entire season, i honestly dont think OSU will be that good this year…… Tech should go 3-0 non conference beat KU, Baylor, OSU, ISU.. Swing games UT, TCU, and Kansas St… Remember Tech almost beat KSU this past season… Maybe Im jus a little optimistic but i believe in the coaching staff and i believe in the players.. If they’re not hungry enough to come redeem themselves then we can b looking at a 5-7 season once again. They just need the fans support…

17 returning starters Shaky S@C program
Dennis Franchione New DC/new defense

Let me clean that up a bit
Pros and Cons to the upcoming season
Pros
3 cupcakes
UT/OU/WVU at home TT
17 returning starters
Dennis Franchione

Ronnie Daniels
Playing KU at home
Bad ass recieving
Cons
Tubs game management
Tubs special teams coaching.

Shaky team morale
Coaches we have to face (Holgerson, Patterson, Briles, Snyder, Rhoads, and Stoops)
Anything can happen next yr, but I just see too many Cons to win > 6-7 games
2013 schedule will be brutal with a new QB behind center.
I'm gonna say it... 9-3 regular season.
Northwestern State W
Texas State W
New Mexico Lobos W
Iowa St. Cyclones W
Oklahoma Sooners L
West Virginia Mountaineers W
TCU Horned Frogs L
Kansas St. Wildcats W
Texas Longhorns W
Kansas Jayhawks W
Oklahoma St. Cowboys L
Baylor Bears W
OOC should be wins without explanation. Iowa St. according to my knowledge is losing some good physical defenders they had and I think we come there disciplined and ready to prove we’re different than last year. We don’t want to lose 3 straight to Iowa State, especially Tuberville. Oklahoma is pissed about letting it get away from them last season, so they come out and play good defense and give us a rout of something to the effect of 38-21. As for WVU, don’t be blindsided by their 70 point scoring affair in the Orange Bowl, they ran the same play 4 times and scored each time. They are not juggernauts by any means as they only really lighted up one Big East foe, UConn, while every other win was rather close, with wins of 3pts twice and 1 pt, and the largest being 10 pts (just once), but they even lost to teams such as Syracuse and Louisville. Plus I think playing Texas the week before wears them down a little. I think TCU comes out more disciplined, period. Kansas State could easily have been a win this year minus a pick 6 (tie game at that point) and two blocked FGs. I’m not sure they get any better, but I think we do. I call Texas a win as well. We went down the field on the first drive last season but a stupid penalty takes away a TD and gets us a FG and ultimately takes away any current and potential momentum. We actually played decent defense until midway through the 1st half Ash makes a huge run and ignites the team. I think we manage to outdo them on the scoreboard by 10 pts (yes I said it). Like what I think Texas does to WVU, I think our team is a little worn going to Okie St. They will probably simply outscore us. And finally, Baylor will probably be praying for bowl eligibility next year with RGIII, Ganaway and Kendall Wright gone. That should be a good win.
Overall, I understand that in the context of the current situation, this is a bold prediction, but I think a combination of factors help us out here that some don’t see or agree with. Tuberville’s hot seat, player’s experience/talent/depth and chemistry of the coaching staff should make this team better by a couple notches. The Big 12 net quality increases with the add on of WVU and TCU and losses of A&M and Mizzou, but I don’t think the conference actually becomes harder with the likes of Baylor, Oklahoma St and Oklahoma actually getting a little worse offensively. I also think the program makes up for last year and gets these 9 wins, in which ever way they come. Even if we win 8 games, I’m still pulling for 9 wins from a bowl game. When this team is healthy, I think they’re perfectly capable of this, so I think the biggest key here is health, even with the increase of talent, experience and depth.
