Signing day thoughts from Mac Engle
I ran across this article from Mac Engle of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. I expected this short piece to go a certain direction, but instead stood at a cross road of four different paths. A past star who faded. A coach who wants to promote all his stars on the team and not just one. A monopoly pumping kiddie drugs over the airwaves. A frenzy for a name on a piece of paper.
I'm sure someone could turn this article into a book.

Great read
The hype machine is in full swing on signing day for sure. I’m not sure how and when all this started but you can sure bet it’s only going to get more media attention. Kids at the age of 18 are getting their first shot at signing a legitimate contract document that says they are in fact special. No more participation trophies. The Lebron moments are theirs for the taking.

I had posted this earlier...
on Seth’s National Recruiting Day blog and thought that Mac had hit the nail on the head about how it’s such a crap shoot when it comes to signing HS players – teenagers.
Even Tommy mentioned yesterday in Dallas if he can hit on 17 of the recruits, his staff has done well.

Good for Coach Florence !
It is an amatuer sport, albeit fraught with dollars. Hold to the thought that it is really about student athletes getting an opportunity to develop into good citizens through a wonderful talent and hard work.

Great read.
It is kind of sad that these kids can’t just be kids and enjoy their HS years
They hype can kill all of the joy
