Texas State, San Marcos and the 8th of September
How many of you guys are really excited about this "game" ?
Even though its Central Texas its the heart of my Red Raider country. Maybe its just I am Dallas and Id rather be on vacation, than host but you really cant beat the Hill Country (yes, I am assuming rain in 2012)
Its early enough it will still be warm, hopefully great weather.
We should all have some dove in the freezer by then,
and its a game we should be able to be confident.
As long as its not on the first weekend (conflict with bird season) we should be ready to rock !
Does anyone have the skinny on what the parking situation in San Marcos, because we sure all are not going to fit inside that place. Whats that capacity about 30K ?

Thank you
for this post.
I am married to wonderful woman who has adopted my obsession for my university’s football program. Our first “football season” as a couple started only weeks after I proposed to her and she just couldnt understand WHY I would no longer call her on saturdays (long distance romance). As if that wasnt enough she is from Mexico City and very metropolitan and just didnt “GET” american football. I then explained to her that obsession with college football equalled or even surpassed that of other countries obsessions with futbol “soccer” to use the term they use to distinguish.
To get to the point…I (now “we”) will now endeavor to impart that same obsession or at least share it a little bit with my in-laws. We have already formally invited them to join us in San Marcos for the start of the New Football Season. Guns up!
Hope to make this a big thing…

That could be a great week end for you and your family...
Desfruta !!
Living large in Texas...Texas forever.
Looking forward to this game being down in Central Texas
Texas State is expanding Jim Wacker Field at Bobcat Stadium to accommodate 29,500 seats for the start of the 2012 Football season.
I will be there. I am going with my family. One of my sisters graduated from Southwest Texas State University (she hates that they changed the name and still calls it by the old name).
I am looking forward to this game. My sister will be wearing her maroon and gold Bobcat stuff and I will be proudly wearing my Scarlet and Black Red Raider colors.
Parking is not very good down in San Marcos and especially up near Texas State. It will still be warm enough for people to still be tubing the San Marcos River and that makes the area very congested.
The tickets go on Sale to the General Public on March 30th and it looks like the Visitors section is in Section 123 and 223. That is in the Southeast corner of the stadium.
Looks like the price will be about $65 per seat for this game.

Can you remember the last season
We didn’t have a pillow fight non-con? Nothing is gained by tough non-con games when you play in a conference as tough ad ours. Glad we figured this out a long time ago.

Agree
The regular season is tough enough. Besides, the non-con games serve as a good time to work the bugs out.

NO KIDDING!
Besides, all the so-called big power schools play marshmellow OOC games. Why should we kill ourselves?

The Texas States and New Mexicos get a little old
When we get back on our feet, I would like to play one team a year from a power conference – doesn’t necessarily have to be a power team. Years ago, we played NC State, Ole Miss, Georgia, etc. It adds a little more fan interest and suspense when there is actually a reasonable chance of losing.

how are we going to get five wins if we play NC State, Ole Miss, and Georgia.

Sounds like you may want to contact the Border Conference
and see if they’re considering expansion.
And don’t forget to buy tickets for that New Haven game. Should be a dandy.
We did well in the Border Conference.

Not yet
Have to wait for WVU settlement before anything is iron clad.

First three games are out
9/1 Northwestern State Demons at home
9/8 at Texas State
9/15 at New Mexico

It must really be hard to buy wins these days;
It is okay to do two homes and one away, and even a home and away, but playing new mexico away every year makes no sense. Plus, they now have a real coach, they could be much more competitive next year. And we have learned that guys like Paul Rhodes who have Tommy’s number give us fits. Franny has Tommy’s number. Could be rough start again.

Aw heck...
Let’s just cancel the game and have both teams and their fans go tubing down the Guadalupe. Should be more fun (watch for snakes, though).
Camp Warnake!
And stinky falls. Watch out for the bottom as you tube through the old dam and get caught in the undertow. Football and the Hill Country.
new mexico
why do we insist on playing an away game with new mexico every year? If everyone is complaining about losing the ATM game, why is Tech continuing to schedule this game? that’s one home game we are losing EVERY year
Get your kicks, on route 66...
We will be there. We live in Corpus Christi so anytime the Red Raiders play close we go to the games. I am waiting for the schedule to come out later today to see if there are any other games we can make this year. I just wish the band was going to be there on the 8th. I am a very proud alum of the Goin Band from Raiderland and the games are just not the same without the band.

I am looking forward to this game
I live in Austin and will probably live South of Austin by September, hopefully by June, in either Buda or Kyle. So, San Marcos will actually be closer to me then than downtown Austin. Also, I will be retired and ready to take in more games than I have in the past. Several of us Red Raiders in this area may be able to get together before the season starts and line up some form of a tailgate. My step-son in law is a student at Tx St, so he may be able to let me know the best areas to do a tailgate. I am sure we can work this out by then. Football is football, and Red Raider football is MY kind of football, I don’t care who the opponent migt be or how good or bad they might be. WRECK ’EM, TECH!

Do I hear an Austin and a RR?
By the way, what Tech ex in S. Austin drives to work down Slaughter in a blue Durango, at about 7:30AM?

I knew that
The guy driving the Durango is in his early 30’s, i think..did not get a good look. He turned off IH-35 and went East on E. St Elmo, too.

$65 bucks for this game?
No thanks. I’ll wait till the drop the price to $25 or $15.
"Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips."
SMU used to do the same thing, normal tickets prices jumped several hundred percent when we came to town. I think the last time, tickets for the following game against NTSU were like 15 bucks and I had paid at least $75 for my tickets.

I said no to that one

I thought, Im not going to subsidize the entire freaking SMU football season
little did I know that a young man by the name of Michael Crabtree would make his career debut with one of the greatest games in Red Raider receiving history

Little did I know that parking at the game was not an option. Missed the opening kickoff because there was just no place to park.

Its just a weird scene overall, the pasty little preppie kids in their shorts and ties. The old guys in their sports jackets etc.
You can tell when the Iron Skillet is in town because thats the only time there are real football fans in the neighborhood.
I do love the occasional flyover though, thats pretty cool

No……I’ll be afield booming away at some feathery friends without a care in the world, other than limiting out! Not a thought on the game, other than we can very easily get stomped in that contest, and honestly it won’t be much of a surprise if/when we drop that to go 1-1 when the radio gets turned on on the drive back to the casa.
