TEXAS TECH ALUMNI KICK OFF "I LIKE MIKE" FUNDRASING CAMPAIGN TO PAY BIG 12 FINE FOR COACH MIKE LEACH
"It's Time For Texas Tech Fans To Stand Up For Coach Leach"
November 19, 2007 - Dallas, TX - Red Raider alumni have launched a fundraising drive to pay the $10,000 fine assessed this week to Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach by Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe. The "I Like Mike" campaign began collecting funds on Friday, November 16.
"Last week, Coach Leach stood up for the Texas Tech football team. Now, it's time for Texas Tech fans to show the same passion by standing up for Coach Leach," said Brian Mayes, a 1991 Texas Tech graduate who helped lay the groundwork for the campaign.
The "I Like Mike" Fund was developed to show the overwhelming support that Texas Tech fans and alumni everywhere have for Mike Leach who is
widely regarded as one of the finest coaches and sportsmen in all of college football.
"Helping his players achieve both academic excellence off the field and athletic excitement on the field, Mike Leach has established one
of the strongest college football programs, and certainly the most exciting, in the nation," added Mayes.
The "I Like Mike" campaign will begin its outreach efforts to Texas Tech fans across the state, as well as the Lubbock business community to help raise the $10,000 needed to pay the Big 12 fine. The campaign will be promoted via a strong public relations effort utilizing statewide media and fan websites.
Donations should be sent to the "I Like Mike" Fund set up at Plains Capital Bank in Lubbock at PO Box 271, Lubbock, Texas 79408. You also may bring your donation to any Plains Capital Branch in Texas or contact Brian Mayes at 214-208-5842 or ilikemikefund@gmail.com. Donations are not tax deductible. All proceeds raised above $10,000 will be donated to the Texas Tech athletic department to help fund football tickets for underprivileged kids during the 2008 season.
