Big 12 Tournament Preview: Friday Games

Round one is in the books and I'm still interested in the Big 12 Tournament because Tech won. Just kidding. Round Two starts tomorrow morning, Let's preview those games.

V.
Game 5: No. 1 Kansas v. No. 9 Oklahoma

Game Time: 11:30 a.m.

ESPNU and ESPN Plus
Team Pts. Reb. FG% 3P% KP Rank Off. Eff. Def. Eff.
Kansas 79.0 40.6 .494 .387 2 15 1
Oklahoma 67.5 36.2 .439 .327 28 82 14

Kansas Players to Watch:

  • Brandon Rush, G, 6-6, So., 13.7 Pts., 5.7 Reb., 1.8 Ast.
  • Mario Chalmers, G, 6-1, So., 12.1 Pts., 3.3 Reb., 3.2 Ast.
  • Julian Wright, F, 6-8, So., 12.0 Pts., 8.1 Reb., 2.3 Ast.

Oklahoma Players to Watch:

  • Nate Carter, F, 6-6, Sr., 11.4 Pts, 5.0 Reb., 0.7 Ast.
  • Longar Longar, C, 6-11 Jr. 10.7 Pts., 7.1 Reb., 1.1 Ast.
  • Michael Neal, G, 6-3, Sr., 10.0 Pts., 2.6 Reb., 1.8 Ast.

First, make sure and check out Crimson and Cream Machine and Rock Chalk Talk for your OU and KU updates. These are both great blogs worthy of your time (yes, I know, you hate OU, but CC Machine is very well done). Also, for those of you at work, you can follow the game on Gametracker

I admit it, it was wrong of me to pick Nebraska over OU, but I can't imagine that KU will lose to OU. KU isn't necessarily playing for much, and OU is playing for an invite to the NIT, but KU has something to prove. KU needs to prove that they are a number one seed and losing to OU might diminish their standing. Give me KU in a blowout, 85-63.

V.
Game 6: No. 4 Kansas State v. No. 5 Texas Tech

Game Time: 2:00 p.m.

ESPNU and ESPN Plus

Preview later.

V.
Game 7: No. 2 Texas A&M v. No. 7 Oklahoma State

Game Time: 6:00 p.m.

ESPN Plus
Team Pts. Reb. FG% 3P% KP Rank Off. Eff. Def. Eff.
Texas A&M 77.0 35.9 .503 .422 3 6 7
Oklahoma State 77.1 35.9 .473 .356 68 77 63

Texas A&M Players to Watch:

  • Acie Law, IV, G, 6-3, Sr., 18.2 Pts., 3.1 Reb., 5.3 Ast.
  • Joseph Jones, F-C, 6-9, Jr., 13.2 Pts., 6.6 Reb., 1.2 Ast.
  • Josh Carter, G, 6-7, So., 12.5 Pts., 3.9 Reb., 2.6 Ast.

Oklahoma State Players to Watch:

  • Mario Boggan, F-C, 6-7, Sr., 20.1 Pts., 7.9 Reb., 1.4 Ast.
  • JamesOn Curry, G, 6-3, Jr., 18.2 Pts., 3.2 Reb., 3.8 Ast.
  • Terrel Harris, G, 6-5, So., 10.6 Pts., 4.3 Reb., 2.0 Ast.

I think I also picked Nebraska, and in my quest to knock off every top seed except for Tech, despite that I have to go with the Aggies. OSU wasn't good offensively and A&M's defense can be suffocating. A&M can also score and Law is the type of player that refuses to allow his team to lose. Give me the Aggies, 77-68.

V.
Game 8: No. 3 Texas v. No. 11 Baylor

Game Time: 8:20 p.m.

ESPN Plus
Team Pts. Reb. FG% 3P% KP Rank Off. Eff. Def. Eff.
Texas 82.9 40.1 .454 .404 15 2 58
Baylor 74.4 36.2 .457 .358 90 59 153

Texas Players to Watch:

  • Kevin Durant, G-F, 6-9, Fr., 25.1 Pts., 11.4 Reb., 1.4 Ast.
  • A.J. Abrams, G, 5-10, So., 15.1 Pts., 2.4 Reb., 1.6 Ast.
  • D.J. Augustin, G, 5-11, Fr., 15.0 Pts., 2.8 Reb., 6.8 Ast.

BearMeat Players to Watch:

  • Curtis Jerrells, G, 6-1, So., 14.3 Pts., 4.5 Reb., 3.9 Ast.
  • Kevin Rogers, F, 6-9, So., 13.0 Pts., 7.8 Reb., 0.9 Ast.
  • Henry Dugat, G, 6-0, So., 11.3 Pts., 4.2 Reb., 2.1 Ast.

For all of your Texas news go to Burnt Orange Nation and for a different spin on Baylor athletics head on over to Bear Meat.

It's obvious that I've jinxed every team that I've picked so far, we can chalk that up to dumb luck or not knowing a thing about basketball. Either way, I'd be foolish to think that Kevin Durant could conceivably stop Josh Lomers and the Baylor Bears. Luckily for Texas the Longhorns also have Augustine, Abrams, and James to help lead the way. Give me UT in a close game as K.D. sits due to foul trouble from having to guard Lomers, 65-61.
