Texas Tech Commits To Play in Global Games

Sunday afternoon as I was heading to a family reunion, I was listening to the radio and heard Dallas Maverick GM Donn Nelson talk about the Global Games and mentioned a Dallas team. Per the Global Games website:

The Global Games is the pre-eminent international basketball event played in the United States. The Global Games exist to highlight the rising stars in the world of international basketball and to promote the growth of international basketball in the United States. This goal is validated and reinforced every year by the large number of NBA scouts, basketball fans, and coaches attending the Global Games.

Knowing a little about this tournament I assumed that some of the Dallas kids he might be talking about would include some of the Texas Tech 2007 commitments. Sure enough, Tech's top three commitments are playing in this tournament, John Roberson, Mike Singletary and D'Walyn Roberts. These Texas Tech kids will be on the Global Games AA team and they play on July 5th at 6:00 p.m., July 6th at 2:00 p.m. and at 8:00 p.m. There's also a number of other Big 12 commits including the following:

  • Texas A&M commits DeAndre Jordan, B.J. Holmes, and Nathan Walkup.
  • Kansas forward Darrell Arthur and Kansas commits Tyrel Reed and Cole Aldrich.
  • Kansas State commit Michael Beasley.
  • University of Texas commit Clint Chapman.
  • Oklahoma State commit Martavious Adams.

The games will be played at Moody Coliseum starting tonight and tickets are $5.00 for July 1st, 3rd and 7th while the tickets are $3.00 on July 5th and 6th. For those of you in the DFW area this might be a great opportunity to see these kids for the first time and see some of the kids who have committed to other schools.

I'm going to go ahead and plan to be at the 8:00 p.m. game on Friday night so anyone who wants to meet up, drop me an email and we'll grab a drink or two after the game.
