Texas Tech Thursday Morning Notes - Knight Wins #900 Edition

Double-T Nation News:

There's a lot to get to this morning and I won't be able to get to all of it. If anyone has anything to add, then please feel free to post a diary or post in the comments section.

Last night's win over Aggie was incredibly satisfying and interesting on so many levels. Just to get it out of the way, here's the official boxscore. I saw some post-game interview with Martin Zeno on ESPN News and he's such a happy guy and seemed like he was smiling on the inside from ear-to-ear. I'm paraphrasing, but when asked what Coach Knight told him to do for tonight's game, he said that Knight told him not to make stupid plays and not to get in a hurry. Well, he did this last night and he got to the basket. He carried this team in the 2nd half with 13 points and 9 made free throws. When Zeno plays like he did last night he's my all-time favorite player at Texas Tech.

I'll get a review of the game up tonight.

There was only one thing that bothered me about last night and it was the crowd, or lack thereof. The official attendance was only 11,268 and when the camera panned to the upper deck behind the basket it seemed pretty empty. I'm not going to call out the students here because from all indications, they came out to see a great game. I can't for the life of me figure out why this game doesn't get sold out. I often lament about wishing that I lived in Lubbock so I could go to Texas Tech sporting events more often, but I don't and I'm jealous of those citizens of Lubbock who have this opportunity. Go to the games. Have fun.

Two student run blogs, RaiderAde has a review of last night's game and Sports Nation has looks back at last night.

Texas Tech Basketball:

LAJ's Jeff Walker files his game story. Here's Coach Knight on #900:

"This thing never entered my mind. I could care less about this," Knight said. "I'm just happy to get it over with because what it becomes ... it's just like last year, we had a record last year we tried to break and teams tried to make damn sure that wasn't going to happen to them. It was the same thing with this. It was an albatross. So, we got rid of it and can concentrate on playing."

You should also check out the audio slideshow from the LAJ.

DMN's Brandon George also files his game story as well as a blog post about Knight leaving the post-game press conference where he had this to say:

"I'm going to go get something to drink," Knight said. "If you want to wait for me to come back, you're free to do so. Don't bet heavily on it."

Back to the game, Knight did have some good things to say about his team, perhaps the highest praise he's had for any of his teams:

"I don't think I've ever had a team that got down to a really good team like that, not behind but lost so much of a lead that it looks like everything is going the other way, and then our kids got it turned around and took the lead all the way back up to 23," Knight said. "That was about as good in that context as I've ever had a team play."

FWST's John Miller files his game story. Here's Knight on Cook and Suljagic:

"I thought [they] played like they should play, as if they were college basketball players," Knight said. "They haven't played well. Tonight, they looked like good college basketball players."
