Texas Tech Thursday Morning Notes - Breakthrough Edition

Double-T Nation News:

Great game last night between the Mavs and Warriors. There was a high school kid sitting in front of me who was cheering for GS all night. There were a couple of funny things, he called all of the GS players by the A-Rod nickname method, i.e. Baron Davis = B-Da. Stephen Jackson = S-Jax. I wanted to throw up. The other humorous part was that this kid was wearing a UT jersey and a UT baseball hat and . . . wait for it . . . a UT skull cap underneath the baseball hat. I'm still not sure of the reason for the skull cap other than to keep the sweat out of your eyes, but I'm pretty sure that you don't need one to attend a Mavs game. I could be wrong.

Texas Tech Football:

LAJ's Don Williams writes about Texas Tech's second bowl comeback in as many years and essentially recaps the game.

DMN's Brian Davis writes about how Texas Tech believes that it's ready for a breakthrough year in 2008 and grades out Texas Tech at the end of the article.

Texas Tech Basketball:

LAJ's Jeff Walker notes Martin Zeno's improved play since he was benched for almost the entire game against New Mexico. Walker also mentions the continuing improved play of Roberson, however, it is the last quote from Knight that intrigued me more than anything else:

"We play a team from another conference and I think that we're not doing the same kind of job getting completely ready to play as the team we're playing," Knight said. "It wasn't as poor (Tuesday) as it has been in the past. We ended up with some things, we had three people scoring and we had some minutes being played that just didn't contribute anything and that's plagued us all year long."

Productive minutes. If Texas Tech can get productive minutes from guys not named Zeno, Roberson and Voskuil then Texas Tech will be better than expected.

Texas Tech Baseball:

Rivals.com's Kendall Rogers has a preview of the Big 12 and has picked Texas Tech last among the 10 teams that play baseball. I still can't wait to see how Spencer does with this group and how they improve, I really am looking forward to this season despite preseason prognostications.

Ha!
Love the part about the high school kid.  Definitely t-shirt fans at their awful best.
