Texas Tech Friday Morning Notes - Fair or Unfair Edition

Double-T Nation News:

In no particular order, DTN's Top Six:

  1. A very interesting article from Basketball Prospectus about shot selection and according to the numbers, the mid-range shot is almost dead. Somewhere RMK is crying in a corner.
  2. SMQ explains the etymology of "single wing tailback". Excellent reading for a Friday morning.
  3. I've already told my wife about this, but shopping leads to more shopping. They didn't need a study to determine this, they could have just asked me about my lovely wife.
  4. Avery Johnson thinks its a good idea to take Jason Kidd, arguably his 2nd best player, off the court for the final 30 seconds. I don't get it. (BTW - I'm a Mavs, Rangers and Cowboys fan so you might see a few comments on those teams as the TT basketball and baseball seasons wind down.)
  5. Rivals.com has its Big 12 Breakdown. Another perfect football fix for a Friday morning. Break-out candidate for Texas Tech is Baron Batch.
  6. A Limited Edition Jordan 23 Basketball, a measley $150.00.

Texas Tech Basketball:

LAJ's Jeff Walker says that PK has challenged this team and had this to say about his team, senior leader and best player:

"I hope they take this as a challenge," Knight said. "I really challenged (Martin) Zeno, that's why I took him out because I put a lot of the blame on him from the standpoint that when you're the best player and a senior you've got to help your coaching staff get the team ready. Fair or unfair as it is, that's the way it is. Your best player has got to be an extension of the coaches and we were just not ready to play (Wednesday night)."

Walker also has his Big 12 Extra (pdf).

I'm sure you've already heard, but Robert Knight will be joining ESPN as a college basketball studio analyst beginning March 12. I think this is a genius move by ESPN (I don't say that very often) and the rest of the country will see how insightful Knight is and I look forward to watching him on the TV.

SAEN's Al Carter has his Big 12 Insider which discusses how so many Big 12 teams are on their way to not being included in the NCAA Tournament rather than being on the "bubble". FWST's Mike Jones also has his Big 12 Men's Basketball Insider writes about the turnaround by Oklahoma State.

Texas Tech Baseball:

LAJ's George Watson writes that Coach Hays is hopeful about this year's squad. You get a good feel for the team from reading this, so I'll just let you click on over. The LAJ also previews the Minute Maid College Classic.

  • Texas Tech v. Houston Friday, February 29, 2008 @ 3:30 p.m. AJ Ramos (TT) (0-1) v. Wes Musick (UH) (1-0).
  • Texas Tech v.Tennessee Saturday, March 1, 2008 @ 3:30 p.m. Nate Karns (TT) (0-0) v. Nick Hernandez (TN) (0-0).
  • Texas Tech v. Houston Sunday, March 2, 2008 @ 2:30 p.m. Chad Bettis (TT) (1-0) v. Matt Langwell (RICE) (1-0).

Texas Tech Football:

Hat-tip to Da Wiz, but here's a pretty cool map of the hometown of each recruit of the Texas Tech 2008 recruiting class.

2008 Texas Tech opponent SMU suspended safety Bryce Hudman and quarterback Justin Willis from the football program for violating team rules.
