Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Texas Tech Monday Morning Notes - Forget About the Scores Edition

Double-T Nation News:

In no particular order, DTN's Top Three:

  1. Corn Nation has a pretty neat visual of Big 12 baseball stats. I really like this feature.
  2. An interesting take on the AAFL from Alligator Army.
  3. Tim Griffin is covering the Big 12 for ESPN and has his Big 12 Roundup (football related).

Texas Tech Basketball:

The Red Raiders play Oklahoma State on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. The game will be televised on ESPN2. Here's the entire schedule for the Big 12 Tournament.

LAJ's Jeff Walker writes about how Pat Knight has given this team a little break. PK is pumping up the NIT and for him and for the team, I do think this would be a good experience:

"It would be great. It's an accomplishment," Knight said following Saturday's 86-73 loss to Baylor. "These guys can look at it like Charlie Burgess played in the postseason for two years, (Tyler) Hoffmeister played in the postseason for two years, (Martin) Zeno played in the post season three out of four years. As life goes on, you forget about scores, you forget about games, but you remember if you played in the postseason and it's something that they can carry with them forever."

I'm hoping that PK takes off the reins and just lets the kids play and takes a "nothing to lose" type of attitude. The body language of this team was a team that was tired, let them have some fun. The pressure is off.

Texas Tech Baseball:

Good for Chad Bettis, who earned his second victory of the year by beating Northern Illinois, 8-5, and bumped the Red Raiders over .500 (7-6) this year (boxscore). Bettis pitched 6 innings, giving up 9 hits, 5 runs, 3 earned (again, there were 4 errors by the Red Raiders), 7 stikeouts and 0 walks for the day. James Leverton and Zach Stewart helped finish out the day by pitching 3 innings of 4 hit bal, striking out 6 and walking none.

Roger Kieschnick is a hitting the cover off of the ball right now as he hit is 7th homerun of the year, while going 3-4. Jason Seefeld (also had a home run), Taylor Ashby and James Leverton each had 2 RBI for the day. The team as a whole had 16 hits for the day and as previously mentioned.

The Red Raiders are in Albequerque on Tuesday and then start conference play on Friday against the Aggies. Here's today's matchup:

  • Texas Tech v. Texas State Monday, March 10, 2008 @ 2:30 p.m. Robbie Kilcrease (TT) (0-0, 0.00) v. TBA (TSU) (0-0).

Texas Tech Football:

NFLDraftSuite has their way too early 2009 and 2010 mock drafts. In the 2009 mock, Graham Harrell is projected as an early 2nd round pick, while Jamar Wall is a 3rd round pick in 2010 as is Brandon Carter in the 5th, and Shawn Byrnes in the 6th. The obvious player missing . . . Mr. Crabtree. Perhaps these guys are also projecting that Mr. Crabtree will be around until 2011 or maybe I've completely missed him, but I find him no where.

I e-mailed the guys and they said all of their info is based on when guys will graduate...thus the reason Crabs isn't listed.  Here was their reply:

Thank you for your interest in our site. Unfortunately, we are only working off who will be graduating in those years. We may change it in the future, but it may get too confusing for people and complicated to predict three years down the line who might be coming out early. However, we will predict the most current year, so once this draft is over, a couple months down the line we will start predicting who will come out early for the next draft.

Thank you again for your correspondence and keep coming to the site as we are continually updating and upgrading it. Thanks for the support.
