Texas Tech Monday Morning Notes - I Think If We Cut Off His Mic, He'd Have A Spare Edition

Double-T Nation News:

In no particular order, DTN's Top Five:

  1. Athletes take easy classes? Oh, the humanity.
  2. BHGP: Joe Paterno meets Terrelle Pryor.
  3. Corn Nation's weekly Big 12 Baseball review.
  4. The Spread Offense is back with how to answer the blitz.
  5. New trailer for Speed Racer. I can't tell if this movie is going to be good or completely suck. I'm leaning towards the latter.

Texas Tech Basketball:

Is anyone really disappointed about not getting into the NIT? Other than some of the guys not getting some playing time, the NIT is really just a waste of time, at least it would have been for me. Granted, other than the extra practice time and time for Zeno to do a little better job of showcasing his talents I can honestly say that it would have been very difficult to write something interesting about an NIT matchup. Not only that, after reading Too Much Rod Benson late last week week about how Cal coach Ben Braun told Benson that he's already won a national championship, an NIT championship, I couldn't help but think that anything after the NCAA is just a joke.

LAJ's Jeff Walker writes about Texas Tech's NIT snub and Texas Tech's decline to play in the CBI (which apparently costs $60,000 to host). PK will be attending the National Junior College Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas, this week, and I wonder if we won't see another commitment by the time PK's stay in Kansas is up. DMN's Brandon George also notes that Oklahoma State and SFA (yes, that's not a typo) were invited to play in the NIT.

If RMK's looks could kill (hat-tip to The Dagger):

Texas Tech Baseball:

Matchups and results:

Date Red Raiders Aggies Result
Friday 03/14/08 @ 6:30 p.m. 5 (Russ Fornea, 1-2) 6 (Travis Starling, 1-0) Boxscore
Saturday 03/15/08 @ 2:00 p.m. 1 (Nate Karns, 1-2) 12 (Barret Loux, 1-0) Boxscore
Sunday 03/16/08 @ 1:00 p.m. 9 (Chad Bettis, 3-0) 3 (Scott Migl, 1-1) Boxscore

Chad Bettis is pretty good. Down 2 games to the Aggies, the Red Raiders had to have a win on Sunday and thanks to the pitching of Chad Bettis and the bat of Roger Kieschnick Texas Tech was able to pull out a win. Bettis pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 7 hits, 2 runs, walked 1, and struck out 5. Zach Stewart pitched the final 2.2 frames, giving up only 1 hit, 1 run, walked 2 and struck out 1. You can't help but notice the lack of walks with Bettis as a key to his early season success.

Roger Kieschnick got back on track with his 8th home run, going 2-3 with 2 RBI. Doug Thennis (2-4) and James Leverton (2-5) also each had 2 RBI.

LAJ's George Watson has his game story and Bettis had this to say about yesterday's game:

"If there was pressure I didn't feel it," the Monterey product said. "I just go out there and try to throw my game. When I'm in a pressure situation I think I do pitch better, I really do. I just knew I had to come out and try my hardest not to let these guys beat us."

RMK vs Dicky V in a cage match.

RMK with
1 hand tied behind his back. Actually, RMK with both hands tied behind his back. So long as Dickie V. is clamoring, I'm thinking RMK figures out a way to shut him up.
Go Raiders . . .
