Texas Tech Saturday Morning Notes - They Competed Edition

Double-T Nation News:

Don't forget to check out my review of yesterday's game. Also, I'll be posting the review and preview of the secondary tomorrow morning.

Texas Tech Basketball:

LAJ's Jeff Walker recaps yesterday's win over the Texas Longhorns. Make sure and check out the audio slideshow, with some nice compliments from UT coach Rick Barnes. DMN's Brandon George also recaps yesterday's huge victory, the FWST's Mike Jones also has an article on how the prior week turned out okay, SAEN's Natalie England has a game story as does the Statesman's Mark Rosner.

PK noted that after Thursday's workout they probably still wished RMK had not resigned:

"They had a good, interesting couple of days," Knight said. "I honestly believe that they might have wished that my dad didn't retire after Thursday's practice. We got after them good, but I'll tell you what, the kids really responded, never complained (and) just accepted what I was giving to them and I think it showed (Saturday). I mean, they competed, and they've competed for me in every game except one."

PK, we now see becoming a teacher, taught his team that perspective is everything and they have an incredible opportunity (from the LAJ's Walker article):

He told them how he runs every day because there are people in wheelchairs who can't. He told them about a letter he received from an inmate in prison that was convicted of murder when he was 14 years old. The inmate has been in prison for 15 years and said his only outlet of pleasure is watching or listening to Tech basketball.

"I actually read that letter to the team and told them If you want to feel sorry for yourselves because I get on you or one of the assistants get on you or you're not playing, how about this guy that pretty much through his life away 15 years ago at the age of 14,'" Knight said. "... I don't want to see them make the same mistakes. ... I want them leaving here playing for me, just like when they played for my father, to have a good work ethic and to compete at everything."

Texas Tech Baseball:

That's better. Behind the pitching of Nate Karns and the bats of Joey Kenworthy and Taylor Ashby, the Red Raiders were able to notch a win over Tennessee, 7-3 (boxscore). Nate Karns pitched 5 innings, giving up 3 runs, 4 hits, walked 5 and struck out 5. The bullpen was great, giving up only 2 hits in 4 innings of relief work, walking 2 and striking out 4. At the plate, Kenworthy and Ashby each had 2 RBI while Chris Hall, Roger Kieschnick and Jeremy Mayo all had 2 hits, one of Kieschnick's was a home run, his 3rd of the year.

Up next:

  • Texas Tech v. Houston Sunday, March 2, 2008 @ 2:30 p.m. Chad Bettis (TT) (1-0) v. Matt Langwell (RICE) (1-0).

Just want to point out, if anyone missed it, OU beat A&M 60-something to 37 including holding the aggies scoreless for 16 minutes.

That is just hilarious!
I was watching the highlights last night, and they showed a clip of the A&M bench and I think it was Kirk, but he looked pissed beyond belief.  I started laughing......Freakin Aggies.

By the way, is there any chance that Darryl Dora could suit up for us Monday night??  I have a feeling we may need him.
