Texas Tech Monday Morning Notes - It's Going To Be Tough Edition

Double-T Nation News:

Make sure and vote to the new poll to the right!

Aggie blog, The 12th Manchild, is back with a couple of new authors and I can promise you that the video is well worth the click over. And for those of you who despise Aggie, well, just remember that I think you love it when students put out their own rap video. Be conflicted, but go visit.

In no particular order, DTN's Top Nine:

  1. Hashmarks checks in with NFL free agency and there is a bunch going on right now.
  2. OU's Blake Griffin may be out for the year. That would be a horrible blow for the Sooners who have OSU and Mizzou left on the schedule.
  3. Not that any of you students cram for tests, but if you did, here's how.
  4. Fanblogs takes a look at who could bust the BCS next year.
  5. RMK checking out Cardinals spring game.
  6. Conquest Chronicles checks in on the Reggie Bush situation and it's getting boring.
  7. Barking Carnival checks in on UT's loss on Saturday to Texas Tech. Personally, so long as UT has a good run in the Big 12 Tournament, these guys will be fine. UT is the most consistent team in the Big 12.
  8. Corn Nation's Big 12 Baseball Weekly Report.
  9. Awiggo at BON takes a look at the Big 12 Week Ahead in Men's Basketball.

Texas Tech Basketball:

LAJ's Jeff Walker previews tonight's game with Kansas and also talks with PK about getting ready for the Jayhawks. Apparently, PK gave the team 24 hours to celebrate and it was back to work on Sunday. Here's PK on the next two games:

"It's going to be tough," Knight said, "but we've got two games left. We've got a really good home game. It would be nice to get both of them. That's your goal. It's still not going to hurt if you get one out of two of them, but we've got to focus on Kansas. ... We'll just go up to Kansas and give it our best shot. It's Senior Night up there. I played there as a player, and it's probably the toughest place to play on the road, but it's going to be a good learning experience for these young kids playing against a team like that."

FWST's Wendell Barnhouse has his College Basketball Insider and FWST's Mike Jones has his Big 12 Glance.

DMN's Chip Brown looks at the week ahead in the Big 12 and takes a closer look at the Aggies as they go from blowing out Texas Tech to being destroyed by OU. TAMU is an inconsistent team because they aren't consistently good shooters. Some days they're great (i.e., see Texas Tech) and other days they can't hit the broadside of a barn (i.e., see OU).

Texas Tech Baseball:

Another close loss. The Red Raiders lose to #6 Rice, 5-4 (boxscore). James Leverson gave up the go-ahead unearned run, and was given his 2nd loss of the year. Starting pitcher Chad Bettis pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 5 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, striking out 3 and walking 3. Jason Seefeld had 1 hit and 2 RBI while Chris hall and Joey Kenworthy each had 2 hits. Here's the LAJ recap and they note that the 4 errors was the story of the day. I would think that Spencer and Hays will not let this be a regular occurrence.

This drops the Red Raiders to 3-5 for the year without any home games to date. There are some good things about this team. Both losses in Houston were close games. This team is competing and that's a huge thing. The pitching staff has walked 35, which needs to be corrected, but did strike out 56 while holding opponents to a .240 average and giving up 4.50 earned runs a game. Thankfully, there are 6 home games starting on Tuesday against Central Arkansas and Illinois for the weekend series. Conference play starts right around the corner (3/14 against Aggie in BCS). These next 6 games will tell a lot about where this program is right now.

One last thing. If the weather is nice, go support your team. Nothing better than some day baseball on a nice spring day.
