Texas Tech Wednesday Morning Notes - It Felt Great Edition

Double-T Nation News:

In no particular order, DTN's Top Five:

  1. Sean Sutton did get fired at OSU. But it was because of a lack of leadership? I'm guessing the real reason was because he didn't win enough.
  2. Inside the Hall on Indiana's hiring of Tom Crean. By all accounts, a pretty good hire.
  3. Rush the Court has heard internet chatter that Knight is interested in Western Kentucky. Surely this is some sort of April Fool's joke.
  4. Quick, who is winning the CBI? The hated Tulsa Golden Hurricanes. It's a best of 3 series, but my question is if you still care about the CBI?
  5. Who else has noticed that ESPN is selling their own advertising? A pretty interesting discussion about whether ad networks are still relevant.

Texas Tech Football:

No practice on Tuesday, but still lots of news. First, DMN's Brandon George reports that the Texas Tech-Oklahoma State game will be played in Dallas starting in 2009, but the question is where is it going to be played, Jerry World or the Cotton Bowl. George also notes that part of the agreement to play in Dallas means that Texas Tech will receive the same deal that Texas A&M and Arkansas is to receive, which is a guaranteed $5 million, plus a share of parking and concessions.

Fox34 takes a look at the defense, including quotes from Ruffin McNeill and some of the players. Most of the players were asked about the difference between McNeill and Setencich and the overwhelming answer was . . . intensity. I shake my head and wonder how Setencich kept his job for so long.

The DT has an excellent article on Baron Batch. If you ever wanted to cheer for a Red Raider, you'd have a tough time choosing someone other that Batch. Go read the whole thing.

Texas Tech Basketball:

Quickly, Fox34 had coverage of South Plains College celebration of their national championship and the clip includes a quick interview of Nick Okorie (he's #23 in the game footage). I think he's going to be able to play a little, i.e., he's going to help out quite a bit.

Texas Tech Baseball:

Date Texas Tech Texas A&M CC Result
Tue. 04/01/08 @ 6:05 p.m. 6 (W: Russ Fornea, 3-2) 1 (L: Trey Hernandez, 0-5) Boxscore
Wed. 04/01/08 @ 2:00 p.m. Cory Large (1-0, 6.19) TBA Boxscore

A good solid effort. That's exactly what you like to see with a team you are supposed to beat. The Red Raiders beat the Corpus-Christi Islander 6-1, behind a strong pitching performance from Russ Fornea. Fornea pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 4 hits, 1 run, walking 1 and striking out 3. Nice work from the bullpen as well. Owen Brolsma pitched 2.1 innings, allowing 2 hits, no runs, no walks and striking out 2, while Brian Cloud pitched 1 inning of no-hit ball, striking out 2 and walking none.

Willie Rueda continues his recent hot streak as he went 2-3, but it was Doug Thennis who is putting runs on the board as he went 1-4 with 3 RBI. Monk Kreder and Chris Hall also each had an RBI.

Don't forget that if you're going to today's game, it's been moved up an hour to 2:00 p.m. rather than at 3:00 p.m. and today would be a great day to go as Coach Hays is going for #1,500 in career victories.

LAJ's George Watson recaps last night's game and has this from Fornea:

"It felt great," said Fornea, who walked one and struck out three to improve to 3-2 on the season. "It does help a little bit having an extra week off but I was really disappointed I didn't get to start because I was sick, and it made being sick even worse. I just came out today to get the job done and did what I had to do."

Fox34 had video highlights from the win over Corpus Christi.

The guaranteed $$ on the O$U game
is $0!!!  The EXPECTED revenue is $5 mil.  However, when you look at the ticket prices A&M is going to have for their game with Arkie...

$100-125 depending on location
$70 for students

then it's REALLY hard to see Tech or O$U getting anywhere near $5 mil each out of this game.

i tried to find
that laj article from a couple of weeks ago, but as I was rushing this morning, I wasn't able to locate it.  I assume that the laj article is more clear as to revenue than the dmn article which tends to state that each school should receive $5 million
Go Raiders . . .
